Hmm, if your general is versing largely eastern infantry, hillmen and maybe skirmishers I can see him beating 1500 men. However if there's chariots and phalanx pikemen.

Phalanx pikemen (x3), archers, slingers, skirmishers, some peasants and chariots.

..or sober..? What's the difference anyway?

Hush now, i'm editing them screenshots as we speak. The update will have no silly rambling. I got unlucky at one point and all the good mood went to hell..  ::)

... I can't wait to see you pull this off.

On a sort of related matter, do you know any good strategies as Pontus against the Roman families? Since I'm sort of losing a war against them. Mainly since the Brutii have a HUGE army of various legionnaires.

I have Rome 1.3 though, and small units. If I change it i'll lose the save I assume. I can give more detail if you want.

Pontus against Romans?

I guess a phalanx C-formed line ("closed" edges) with heavy cavalry on the sides and anything that can throw stuff behind the phalanx line. It's a 100%-working Greek-type units strategy. Group the pikemen so they move in formation. (8+ units in a 3 men.. sometimes 4 man line) Group archers so that you can focus their fire.
Your cavalry has to win. If your flanks collapse, you will get slaughtered. But aside from that you will take nearly no casualties while romans will die in thousands.

Weaknesses :
- Enemy has to attack YOUR line (taunt them with missiles)
- Siege weapons can break the line, it's very tight. I had an onager kill 25 spartans with one shot. Take siege weapons with your cavalry even before the battle starts.
- You need strong, reliant units on the sides, to hold off enemy flank-attacks, and then proceed with your own ones.

I guess as Pontus you can use their charriots etc., but personally i never used charriots as any nation. I prefer units that rout to units that go berserk.

Please note that i never played as Pontus. Only against them. But i played as Greeks once.
Here is a SS of what i was talking about.

Archers were initially outside the formation (as seen on ss) to fire a volley or two AND (very handy) taunt enemy cavalry into charging the phalanx.

You beat the strategy with a total reverse of the formation. Open C line with units as spread as possible (i will use it in a few updates). But if enemy uses that tactic (human, as AI does not) just close the C completely, focus archer fire on one point, and once it's nearly broken, charge through phalanx with cavalry, breaking the line.

Hmm, it could work. I just need to train up all the best Pontic units (Which take two turns), Although is there any way to start the roman civil war, and can it even happen if the AI is in command of all the Roman factions?

EDIT: Mass assasins is such a fun tactic, I killed their faction leader who had a 1% chance of dying. Also, I  own Campus Lazyges, which was once Dacian by using horde tactics.

A great thing to do is to use spies to propagate plagues to ennemy cities. It can kills their generals quite easily, damage their troops and is much easier to do than standard assassination.

Yeah, but first I would have to get plague bearing spies, and the only plague bearing cities I have are too far away for my navy. There's these factions left:

Me( I own the entire east of the map).
 Spain (One territory)
Britannia (Own most of Western Europe, about to be crushed by Julii).
Parthia (Used to be my allies, now I'm about to finish them off).
The Roman families (All at war with me, control most of eastern Europe, the Scipii only control sicily and the Julii control parts of western Europe).
Carthage (Controls western africa, they're at war with me but aren't sending any units...)
Germania (Their last city is under siege by Romans).

Great point is that once you incoulated plague to one of their city, you use it as a plague reserve by keeping infested spies there. Just send your fresh spies there for the regulatory infection.

Hmm, it could work I suppose. I do have a plan on how to shut off the money flow for the Romans regarding agents, but I really need to just deal with their armies.

Please note, that this mini-update will not contain too much *cough* "humor". Mostly combat rambling, maneuvering and stuff. Why? I'll let you figure it out.
We are fighting Egyptian army, but are not going to advance to Egypt before we take Pontus out (vote). It's just that our leader is 71 and this Egyptian army is the only one he can reach before dying peacefully.. I bet Pharaoh won't mind.

If i recorded the fight, i would use Track number 50, Hunter Hunted Check it out.
Without further ado...

Still, you've defeated a 1500-units strong army with a single unit of cavalry. I know they were uber-cavalry but still. He died like a real Armenian!

Check out the Egypt's response. I just edited it in.
Also : If he didn't die to that knife.. Damn it all! Avoiding spears is not enough. A shame he didn't have "been in wars" trait.
