Oi, I need some help.
I haven't been monitoring my fishing situation, so it got a bit out of hand.
Almost every barrel in my base is full of fish.
I tried dumping the barrels in a trash compactor, then unforbiding the barrels without the fish itself, but that won't work.
Should I just dump all the fish by hand or what?

You could just disable all food production until the levels decrease a bit.

Alternatively, mod fish to evaporate in air.

Try from the [z] stocks menu ---> tab ---> dump manually all the fish.

Or, if you'd like to save some, create a new fish-only stockpile, and set it to not accept barrels or pots, while forbidding fish from your original stockpile. Food doesn't rot as long as it sits in a stockpile, without a container is vulnerable only to vermin.

or just sell it. Cooking is a better choice, make a stockpile that accepts fish, build a kitchen next to it

you can make fish stockpile smaller which means your fish won't be put in so many barrels once you first eat them empty. This way extra fish will be put in refuse stockpile, i think.
Alternatively you can make MORE barrels, which is more dwarfy.

Cook it, stuff it into barrels, sell to humans and dwarves for wood to make more barrels, rinse and repeat until no more fishes left.

Can you cook raw fish in .31...? If not, you need to set up a fishery first and process the fish.

Extra fish that have no place in a stockpile will be left where they are, and will only be moved to the refuse pile once they start rotting.

Fishing is a nice industry because it can run on auto-pilot.

The only problem is, once your dwarfs start getting good at it, the fisheries are exhausted...

Make more barrels. Large amounts of food won't hurt - just cook it and/or sell it.

The entire damn map is out of trees.
And I STILL don't have alcohol.
So I decided "screw this" and dumped all of the fish manually.

Also, why can't you take fish OUT OF BARRELS at the trade depot?
I could've gotten rid of a shitload and gotten PROFIT if I didn't have wooden barrels.

Press 'q' and hover the cursor over your fish stockpile and then press 'E' and your dwarfs won't store fish in barrels any more.
