The Maiden Voyage (Experimental and slow paced)
« on: June 18, 2011, 07:04:49 am »

Like the thread name suggests, this will be rather experimental and extremely slow paced. If you are looking for action, go away. Don't tell me you have not been warned. This RP will rely heavily on observing and/or interacting with NPCs. I wanted to see how much interest this awakes before making any plans, so I will just give a brief introduction about the RP.

The events take place in near future. Very totalitarian government is ruling... some place. There are many rivaling corporations and unions opposing the government. You work for one of these corporations. You are and Spy/Assassin sent for maiden voyage of The Keeper, a smallish passenger ship. The passengers of this cruise include some of the leading elite of the totalitarian party, including its chairman. Your corporation has learned that one of your rivaling corporations is planning to assassinate the chairman on this very same cruise. Even though you oppose the totalitarian government and party, this does not fit to your plans of your boss at this moment. You have two objectives.

1. To prevent the assassination of the chairman.
2. To gather any intelligence regarding the totalitarian party OR the rival corporation.

Regarding the game mechanics; this will be very non-luck RP, which means that dice is only thrown for some "random generation." I will not throw dice to determine if you success in some action or not, but will rather make it so that the result depends on your entirely on choices. That means you must plan your actions based on observation. I will be rather brutal about it, so if an security camera spots you on cargo bay, or you are found sneaking around bridge, it is pretty much end of your career. I will try to make somewhat realistically behaving NPCs, with a distinct personalities.

Game will not begin anytime soon, because as said, I need to see if there is interest for it and prepare it first.

Like the gameplay idea, but unsure about the setting. Also it's unclear how much commitment playing would require..

Well it will/would be played on this forum, and doesn't require any more commitment than other games here, except maybe you would need to keep some notes by yourself about any suspicious person, or just that some area/person should be avoided etc.

EDIT: And what part of the setting you mean? Ship or totalitarian government/corporations part?
EDIT2: And if someone dies/gets caught/leaves the game, new agent(s) may get on the ship on the next harbor.

Ship assassination could work if the surrounding setting is interesting enough. Totalitarian regime could work if the scenario is interesting enough. The combination of setting and scenario sounds quite generic thou.

Well that why I need to prepare things, but I'd rather know if there is enough interest on this before making anything too complex. And I think I am going to use fictional earth-like planet instead of earth.

Also added a concept of deckplans on second post. Suggestions etc. are welcome, considering the deckplans and the whole idea in general.

I'm rather interested. Should I make a character now, or wait?

The background is supposed to be the cover identity's background.

Well, as I said I'm going to use earth-like planet instead of earth, but places you mentioned are from earth... Actually, leave the background out. Just keep it for yourself and roleplay according to it, but I don't need (in this game) to change story according to your (cover) background, so just think something yourself.
