I had a trapped live lizard and was taming it.  The trainer gets thirsty and leaves.  When he comes back I get the message that "Urist McDwarfpants cancels Tame a Small Animal: Needs unrotten item."  If I requeue the task, I get the same message.

It only seems to occur if there is no animal stockpile, and the trapped animal is left inside the kennel.  If there is an animal stockpile, another dwarf will remove the animal and the trainer will retrieve it when he returns.

The unrotten object it needs is a vermin food object to feed the animal.  What was the food situation there?
