Babies held by military dwarfs
« on: June 17, 2011, 04:29:35 pm »

Can a baby held by a military dwarf attain "used to tragedy" or "doesn't really care about anything anymore " if it's mother causes enough bloodshed?...assuming the baby isn't used as a meat shield first......

Exactly. Ethics in DF are very realistic - trivial and pointlessly selectively ex/inclusive.

In theory, it's likely.
In practice, I would say hard

In theory yes.  Babies have most of the same traits as a full grown adult, and can gain stats.  In practice, you'd only really see this with marksdwarves who are training on captured goblins, because they can be away from any danger and still cause bloodshed.  Whenever dwarves get into melee, their first reaction is to place their baby on their head, to allow free use of both hands, and thus any headshot instead strikes the child.

Elves are confirmed to breed in captivity, fyi.  Just be aware that they're difficult to move because the cause job cancels, being hostile.  Unknown if captured traders will breed.

I like this. It reminds me of a killing machine controlled by a small mastermind. Like that cliche of 'open up the robot, in the head there is a diminutive, napoleonic complex'd being'.

A mother with 2 babies retrieved a wounded dwarf earlier for me.

Must have looked amusing. Did you know they keep pet vermin up there on the shoulders/head? You can get quite the pile if you want to.

So it means if we build a secluded place from the dwarven fortress, is possible to have an ELF TRIBE NEAR YOUR FORTRESS?

MUST... NOT... DO... !!SCIENCE!!...

TWO babies? That's overkill. Just use a nice, old-fashioned magma cannon.
