doomsday device- drop the moon
« on: June 17, 2011, 03:19:50 pm »

so, i was replaying an old game, infinite undiscovery, where the moon has been chained to the earth and is going to smash into it. this gave me my doomsday device idea- make your fortress in a tower, build a chain out of say, gold from the top that ends in a sphere of cast obsidian. the chain is supported by a support. there is a lever in a sealed room. 3 guesses what happens next

What would be even better is if you could cause the fall to occur slowly. Set up a fluid system that could set off multiple triggers over a period of time, causing the moon to fall a set amount, then wait, then fall another set amount, until it hits the ground. It's the Moon from Majora's Mask!

You also have to play the Song of Time using Minecraft's note blocks then delete the save and revert to when you backed it up three days ago, losing all of your progress.

I don't think the fluid logic would work like that :S if it drops even one z-level wouldn't it fall apart/crush the supports under it?

Best panic/suicide button ever. Smash your entire fortress into the invading army.

This must happen. I believe 5 z-levels of full map is sufficient, no?

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

I'm still waiting for moving fortress parts, at which point my fortress will become my weapon (and also become mobile).

I'd probably try to replicate Howl's Moving Castle, myself.

Not right now, but things like Indiana Jones style crushing walls and rotating bits are eventually planned.  It's only natural that a player will subjugate, abuse, and weaponize them.  I'm expecting dwarven mecha to be the smallest of creations.

Unless the moon is completely solid, due to DF physics the moon would collapse into itself, and likely make a solid chunk of rock. To prevent the moon's shape from going apeshit, you need to dig a depression that matches the moon's circular shape.

To continue the brief discussion of fortress parts, once they come about, Howl's Moving Castle will be the first thing I try to make, and it should be relatively easy. (When compared to the other plans I have)

Then, I'm going to make something that launches pieces of itself at my enemies.

Finally, I'm going to recreate Voltron, this means I'll need 5 seperately deployable giant mechanical lions that can combine into a humanoid form, and can somehow spawn a burning sword.

Toady has failed if this isn't possible.  ;)

Will moonstones be involved in any way?
