Grand Temple of the Invisible Wall
« on: February 08, 2008, 07:32:00 am »

This is a goblin temple at the bottom of a cliff that has the rest of the fortress on top of it (took a couple tries before I could arrive in an area where I could actually get to the goblins.  They're pretty high up), and which, apparently, contains a wall so (un?)holy that I cannot look at it directly.

In fact, I cannot see it at all.

There appears to be "something" obscuring my vision of the wall on this one side of the fort for about 6 z-levels, at the top of which I can see a layer of black sand (pictured in the small view-window).  There also happens to be a drunk looking down at me from up there, and the arm of one of the priests which somehow made it up there (hell of a swing), but that's not important.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on here, but I'm pretty sure it must have something to do with the previous temple-placement problems.

That "X" is, of course, the [l]ook command, and it's acting as though it's in unrevealed territory, even though I'm standing right next to it.

Your minimap also disturbs me.  What is it doing there?

I think I understand this problem.  I don't understand your minimap though.

Looks like it's not the wall yet... Looking at your minimap I assume you have 4-tile open space, not too. But I don't know why is your sight of view "cut off" then.

Not quite sure what you mean about the minimap...  Are you talking about the level indicators to the right of the screen, or the map overlay on the left?

I'm afraid that adventurer met his end, but I'm fairly certain I can find the fort again if you want more images, or if you want to check out the place yourself.

From what I'm seeing the temple itself is halfway off the top of the site.  Which I'm guessing isn't supposed to happen.

Ive seen the same thing happen to a city civ castle, but it was just barely off the edge, still enough in it to be fully on the minimap but still extending about 5 tiles off the north end of the site.

Unfortunately even if my current world is the one to have it, I didn't bother remembering the city name so I wouldn't be able to find it again.

I have no idea why, but this made me laugh heartily.

Ah, I think I get it.  This temple is only 16 tiles tall, so it must have had trouble cramming it into whatever site the goblins chose (probably because it had chasms/rivers running through it, and they had enough trouble finding spots for their towers).  However, I think the minimap doesn't yet account for 2x1 buildings.

I wonder what a Nx1 or a 1xN should look like.  There aren't as many good ASCII symbols for those that fit the minimap style, at least off the top of my head...
