Pile both corpses ontop of each other and use those as a step up to help get Mark down. Use the end of the spear if needed to saw through the rope.

You use the spear to cut Mark down from the ceiling, its length allowing you to reach. He falls to the ground with a thud, the landing making little difference to his already near unconscious state.

"Water..." he croaks out, and you hand him your waterskin, which he empties within seconds. You also offer him some bread, which he takes eagerly.

After a few minutes he seems to be recovering a little, and explains to you that the two of you are being held captive by a group of seemingly necromantic creatures. From what he's seen they appear to be almost zombie-like, but with a malicious intelligence that separates them from the average walking dead.

He says he doesn't know what exactly they are, but the two of you agree to refer to them as "Fiends." They were in the process of converting both of you into their kind, but it appears as if they hadn't completed the rituals before you escaped your cell.

Mark is still bleeding and sickly. What would you like to do?

Ok, ok. We can do this. First thing's first. Take whatever cloth you can from the fiends that isn't too dirty and bind Mark's wounds. Give him the spear to use as a walking stick. We take the whip and rope that was used on Mark and hide both bodies in empty cells if there are no guards around. Don't forget to search them first for other things. Then check the other cells after asking Mark if he knows where Max is.

You rip strips of cloth from the relatively cleanest looking bits of clothing worn by the Fiends and use it to patch up Mark's wounds. The pieces are still pretty dirty looking, but for now your biggest concern is to stop the bleeding, not avoid infection.

You take the rope you cut from the ceiling and the whip from the dead guard, handing the spear to Mark to use as a weapon and walking stick. (+3 Feet of Rope, +Leather Whip, -Spear)

You search the guards for other things, finding little of value or interest. The most remarkable thing you find in the impaled guard's pocket is a chunk of unidentified rotting meat. Mark suggests, with a disgusted grimace on his face, that it is most likely from a butchered human or gnome.

You ask him if he knows the locations of the other members of the old adventuring group. He says that he had blacked out until recently and remembered very little, but had a vague sense that Max, Asno, and Johnny had escaped in the battle that lead to their capture.

You feel as if this will all become clearer in the future. If you escape your prison, that is.

What would you like to do?

NO! God no! That will only bring down hell on our heads. We are still near the baracks. Anyway, he is probably with Max if he is still alive.

Search the other cells quickly while rubbing where we are sore to help us heal a bit faster. Hide the dead bodies in other empty cells.

Wohoo! It's alive!
Would it be wise to ask Mark if he knows how many Fiends there are?
(You know, in case we want to thoroughly inspect the place searching for Max and Asno. You never know)

Lolno, we are sick, tired, dehydrated, starving and wounded. Going into the barracks with just the two of us is deathwish. Search the other cells.

You ask Mark if he knows how many Fiends there are.

"Dozens patrol this section of wherever we are, at least. I don't know how large this prison is, or if it is part of an even larger structure. From what I've seen, there could be hundreds of these rotting bastards. And the ones you have seen here so far? They're nothing. They're just the torturers, too unfit to be put into the main guard."

You ask if he knows the layout of the area, to which he replies that he is just as clueless as you are.

You rub your sore bruises a little to help them heal faster, after a brief rest, you put your ear to the door and listen closely, hearing no footsteps. You unlock the door and the two of you glance up and down the hall, and then begin checking the nearest cells for anything useful.

Most contain no life, simply filled with the bones and rotting flesh of murdered prisoners. In the last cell you check, however, you unlock the door and immediately notice a small Gnome sized figure curled up in the corner of the room, facing the wall. It is whimpering and chattering to itself in an unintelligible dialect, seemingly going mad with insanity.

The two of you slowly begin approaching the figure, and half way into the room let out a quiet "Hello?"

To your horror, the creature turns around, the skin on its face rotting, its teeth sharpened to points, and reeking of putrid rot.

"Please... kill me... before I go completely insane like the others..."

Punch it and tell it to get a hold of itself.  We should save him and get a new ally!
