He said that these two are involved with a mercanary group and have little to do with their racial factions.

It's called a plot device, stabby, because with our neutral decision I couldn't introduce the companion I intended to ;)

[Let's not go crazy now, stabby.]

You decide to take the side of the Goblin shaman. Mark takes aim, shooting the druid in the chest. She looks down shocked, and then in the direction of your group as she falls to her knees. The Goblin casually walks up and kicks the druid in the face, caving in her skull.

She then turns to your group. “Thank you for the assistance, adventurers. I'm a traitor of the Silver Claw mercenaries, they occasionally send someone after me. My name is Asno, and if you were watching the battle you should know I'm a fairly skilled shaman.”

She eyes you all over thoughtfully before asking, “I have no where else to go, is there any room in your group for one such as myself?” You all agree to let her join you and continue your traveling to Freeport. (Asno has joined the party!)

You have now been traveling for five days, and have finally reached the city of Freeport. The town is run by bandits, pirates, and thieves. There is a government in charge, lead by the human king, but the real power is held by the crooks that thrive here.

Immediately upon entering vagabonds and gruff looking men begin waving and calling out to Max. He looks pretty satisfied, explaining to you that this was his base of operations for a long time. You see a job board, a tavern, a vagabond camp, a merchant's row, a dock with many rough looking sailors walking around and transporting goods, and a Thief's Guild. There are many shady people in the streets, gamblers and prostitutes, cut-purses and pirates. Max explains that there is some honor within people like this, and as long as he is with you guys you can set up your tents in the vagabond camp without worry of being stolen from.

Mark looks uneasy, Max is walking around with a big grin on his face, and Asno is looking around curiously. What would you like to do?

Ask Max about anyone of note, and anywhere we should go/avoid.

Then go to the job board and merchant street to see what's for sale.

Sounds like a good idea for now, as much as the thief guild interests me.

Max mentions a few people of interest, mostly pirate captains and bandit leaders, but the name that catches your eye is that of the pirate lord who runs the town, known only as Reed. He says he is on pretty good terms with him, having sailed with him before, and that our connection with him may be useful later on.

You check the job board, and see several tasks of interest:
A small merchant vessel needs guards, it is transporting a shipment of rare spices. Max informs you that that is smuggler lingo for shipping large amounts of contraband. You don't want to start becoming a criminal, but it is something to consider.
There is an infestation of ogres inside one of Reed's royal shipping centers. We want them dealt with. Max tells you a royal shipping center means a seaside cave of illegal goods. The ogres, he says, don't represent anything. Just actual ogres.
There are some actual legitimate merchant ships that need guards, but for less pay.
There are other things posted on the board, but Max gets bored of explaining them to you and says that the real jobs only start once you have a reputation in the town, and are obtained from various leaders throughout the area. He says that while he may have a reputation around here, the rest of you don't as a group.

You head to the merchant's row and see the usual things for sale. Tinkerer parts, dried fish, equipment. Max nudges you and shows you to a back alley way, where you see many hidden stands operated by many shady looking people. You figure you could probably find any bizarre or illegal thing you wanted around here, but for now decide to not stray too far away from the law.

What would you like to do?
