It appears I'm late; there was a fourth option a step better than this one. As usual, both sides have done things wrong, and both of them are in the moral wrong. However, neither group had/has any good choices on the matter: the evles could either have started killing all of their children (or old people) they liked the least, or encroached on other people's lands; the orcs could have sat around hungry, dry, and miserable in the desert or they could try taking their land back by force. The orcs know that no one will listen to an orcish diplomat, and the elves know that orcs are always up to no good.
The correct answer would have been to identify a neutral party with good prisons, take the orcish leader there, go kidnap the elven leader, then get them to sit down with each other and hammer out a good plan to fix things. This would probably take many days and some nights. During this time both nations would try retrieving their own, with the elf probably using some beacon power... so maybe later.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

It's not his spelling, it's his punctuation.

Might as well get max some proper leather armor. Also, ask him what locations don't have a price on his head.

Edit: Build 6 black powder bombs as well, and fill Sprint's barrel with water.

Along with the gear would you like to melt down the armor plates from the mill as well?

You pick through the greenskin gear, finding nothing of any real value except a well crafted short sword, which you give to Mark. You make a mental note to melt all of this down to bars when you get to a place with the proper facilities to do so.

You walk to the market and find someone selling a set of studded leather armor, which you point out to Max. He spends some of his money to buy it for himself, and is happy when he tries it on and sees that it fits him well.

You buy another length of rope, six more powder bombs, some more rat milk for Mavrick, and a large supply of food. You also top off Sprint's barrel with water. (+Stuffs, -40 Copper Coins)

There is a traveling Gnomish merchant in town, selling alchemical equipment. The set includes a mortar and pestle made of stone, many glass tubes and apparatus he says are used to heat and distill various liquids, and a small oil filled container that can be used to hold a flame under a flask or tool. He is willing to sell you the entire set for 1 Silver, 22 Copper coins. You tell him you might come back to buy it soon.

Max visits the bar and asks around for information about ruins to explore nearby, no one has any leads however. You ask the druids if they would be willing to enchant a few rings, however the news has reached them of your freeing of the Orc leader and they deny you.

You ask Max where he can go without worrying about his bounty. He says he has a moderate bounty on his head at Stockton, and is exiled from Cryptsocks. He says he has a positive reputation at Freeport, however, due to his dealings with the pirates and thieves there.

You consider where to go. Elmchester, Kingwich, and Southwillow are all Elven settlements, and considering how you want to avoid the conflict between them and the greenskins it might be wise to avoid them. Crestvale is the human capitol, and is about six days away. Stockton is about four days away. Cryptsocks is about four days away. Freeport is about five days away. The Kobold camp that you are friendly with is about three days away.

What would you like to do?

Buy the Alchemists kit. Buy a small animal and use it to train Maverick to attack and heel on command. Set off for freeport.

[OOC: I've been using the misspelled version of the name “Maverick” because that's what was posted when I asked for a name for him. Should I keep referring to him as Mavrick or change it to the proper spelling? Also, I had to work in the next planned companion somehow with the neutral choice, hence the mage fight.]

You buy the alchemy kit, and carefully wrap all the pieces in cloth and put them in the large pouch of your herbal bag. (+1 Alchemy Kit)

You buy a small squirrel and, outside of town away from the Elves' eyes, spend some time training Mavrick to attack it. He catches on pretty quickly, and soon you have him chasing down other squirrels and small animals in the area. You also spend some time training him to stay at your side, which he learns successfully. He seems hairier and larger than before, as well, and it makes you smile thinking he's going to be the size as the rats you fought before soon.

You decide your business here is done, get all your things together, and start traveling to Freeport. The first two days of the trip are uneventful, however in the early morning of the third day you hear the sound of fighting. In your path is a battle between an Elven druid and a Goblin shaman. They seem pretty evenly matched as they fight and cast spells at eachother.

Mark notices that they both wear the emblem of the Silver Claw, a neutral mercenary organization. It is unlikely that either has any strong ties to their racial faction. Do you want to aid one side, or sneak past the fighting?

E: oh. didnt see update.

See if you can quickly modify a Grenade into a flashbomb. That will get their attention. When they're still blinded, tie them up with that new rope.

Failing the flashbomb, kill the elf. The race seems more loyal.

And I like Maverick better.
