Spoiler: Note (click to show/hide)

You take a javelin and use your moment of opportunity as it's distracted by Mark to stab it right in the back of the head and neck, causing it to writhe in pain. You keep the javelin in until the rat's thrashing causes it to snap, but by the time that happens the rat's fate is sealed, and it stops moving. (-1 Javelin)

Mark, not wanting to turn his back to the huge thrashing rat in front of him, looks past it and looses an arrow at the rat in the back, striking it in the face and killing it.

Max sees his opportunity with the swimming rat, takes a quick, large chug from his flask, and jump in, javelin raised, and stabs it repeatedly.

All the rats in this room are now dead, and you and Mark begin skinning them. He takes two of the “normal” sized rat pelts, giving you the huge one and the other normal sized one. (+Gargantuan Rat Pelt, +Giant Rat Pelt, +4 Rat Paws)

Max picks up the dropped torch, which is still burning. There is still an unexplored hall connected to this, what would you like to do?

If we are going to do this, we are going to do this right. Commission a copper necklace chain from the metal guild and make her a rat tooth necklace.

That said we may have more rats to kill before we think that far ahead.

Veto. I don't think I have to explain this, but I will anyway.

reason 1) Is she even of our race?
reason 2) You two just met literally 4 or 5 days ago
reason 3) We're just trying to get our bearings, we'll probably move to different towns and different places.

You continue through the hall, Max in front with the torch, you after him, and Mark in the back. The hall ends in a small room, the ground covered in piles of straw. What you see surprises you, there are about ten little baby rats, about the size of cats, laying in their straw nests. All of them are blind and hairless at this age, and there are no adult rats guarding them.

“This is the end of the sewer, I say we kill these babies and report to the mayor, it should be all clear now,” Mark states.
“These babies haven't even seen what their mother looks like, we should kill most of them but I say we take one with us, it could be a valuable pet,” Max replies.

What would you like to do?

Take a pet rat, to tame. If it gets big enough we can ride it into battle!

Claim a baby for yourself, and let Max take one if he wants. Kill the rest.

Go see the mayor. Give mark his third and offer max a third if he wants it.

The three of you put all the rats into the center of the room, looking them over. Max seems to think he's going to be with you for a while now, and says that you should pick only one.
Of the rats several stand out:
One is more lively and active than the others, trying to run around and escape the pile of baby rats, causing Max to have to put it back with the others every twenty seconds or so. You find it amusing watching him run around keeping them together.
One is clearly larger and stronger than the others, it seems a little more viscous as the other rats are avoiding it.
One seems smarter than the others, waiting for Max to try to catch the lively one before sneaking away from the group.

You don't think you want the hassle of training more than one rat, which should you pick? Also, what should you name it?

EDIT: Pick the smart one, you don't want one that'll be annoying by escaping or attacking you, a smart rat you can train and call mavrick
