You send Mark out to hunt, and have Max stay around the camp to help recuperate his broken rib. You decide to give him one of the healing teas you brewed several days ago and it seems to help him feel better. You start walking around the area searching for useful plants. You're somewhat successful, and as you are counting what you've found Mark returns with a dead boar slung over his shoulder and starts skinning it. He stores the skin for later and cooks the meat, pouring salt on it from a bag of his to keep it from spoiling. (+4 Days of Food for the Group, +4 Healing Herb Leafs, +3 Pipeherb Leaves, +6 Green Mint Leaves (in this world they contain properties of poison curing), -1 Healing Tea)

After you are done packing your things, you continue walking toward Changedgrove. Mavrick seems more energetic than usual, so in between his sleeping breaks you let him walk next to you as you travel. After several hours you reach a major river and set up camp. The snow lessens as you get closer to the forest, Mark hypothesizes that as you lose elevation the temperature slightly increases, and as you leave the hills you are getting lower. You set up camp and sleep for the night.

It is now morning. You see that the river is about a half kilometer wide, and is moving calmly. The trees around the river are denser than usual, and the foliage is thick. What would you like to do?

Try to find how the elves get across, if you follow the river along the answer should reveal itself, a bridge or something

Killroy: Whittle a set of figurines depicting the party's battle at the Vagabond camp. (Max, Mark, Killroy, 4 baddies injured and dying). Try to feed Maverick a meal of all solid food.

Mark + Max: Get some water from the river

Group: We have extra food. Lets follow the river until we find a spot where crossing would be easy. Even if it takes a day or so it would be worth the risk.

You contemplate how to cross the river, Max explaining that the Elves rarely leave their forests and that merchant caravans traveling this way carry rafts to float over.

As a group you refill all your water containers, which happens to be only three water skins worth. You consider saving up for a pull-able wagon or a pack animal to carry your gear, along with a barrel of water.

You spend some time whittling a set of figurines depicting the battle, one of you stabbing a baddie through the chest, one of Mark cutting a baddie's throat, one of Max crushing a baddie's skull, and one of the half-Goblin fleeing the scene like a coward. You decide that if you do end up selling these it will be as a set, and place it in your chest. (+1 Vagabond Battle Figurine Set)

You manage to feed Mavrick his first entirely solid meal, and take notice that he has been increasing in size quickly since you found him. His hair is thicker now and he seems more intelligent, as well as bigger, stronger, and faster.

While you were doing all of this Max and Mark managed to accomplish nothing special, sitting around playing cards by the fire. You pack up your things and decide to head upstream, hoping to find a cross-able spot in the river. After a couple hours of searching you find a shallow rocky part and, carrying Mavrick, carefully cross. After resting for a moment you continue traveling for a while before setting up camp and going to bed.

It is now morning, the birds are chirping, and, while chilly, it seems like a nice day. You are now out of the hills entirely and in the grassy plains, where trees are hard to come by and the only real foliage is the occasional collection of bushes. What would you like to do?

And see if you can train the rat to respond to your whistle, see if you can make it come to you when you blow it, and when possible make/buy a flute which lets you make different sounds, they should each tell the rat something to do.

You pack your things and leave immediately for Changedgrove, figuring you might make it there before the end of the day if you hurry and don't go hunting or gathering in the morning.

It takes you about twelve hours of walking, but you make it to Changedgrove toward the end of the night. There is a large dirt wall and water-filled moat around the settlement, but as soon as the guards see you they extend the living plant bridge and let you in. A guard approaches you.

“It is rare when we see a traveler who isn't an Elf or a merchant come here, what is your business?”
“We are simply seeking refuge, and it is unlikely we will stay here long,” Mark answers.
“Times have been tough around here, we have been suffering frequent raids from the greenskin kind. Orcs mostly, but they are being lead by the Goblins. This isn't the most peaceful place to be. If you wish to stay here feel free to set up a camp within the earth walls, no one here will steal from you. Right now besides the expected caravan you are the only non-Elven people.”

You find a nice spot near the center of the settlement and set up your tent. You collect sticks from the ground and make a small fire, and as soon as you all enter the tent and feed yourselves, you collapse from exhaustion.

It is now morning. Mark is tending the fire, and Max seems to have gone exploring the settlement. Looking around, you see a notice board, a collection of merchant tents, and a couple guild buildings made of clay and wood. There is a Woodworking Guild and a Druid's Guild. Most of the Elves live in shacks built in the branches of the majestic trees inside the walls, though some live in tents. Mavrick is running around the camp freely. What would you like to do?

You train Mavrick to come to you when you blow your whistle over the next hour. It involves Mark holding him back from you with you holding a scrap of food he wants, and then Mark releasing him when you blow the whistle. Soon he is able to do it on his own, without needing to be offered food. You also write a note to send to Chel when the caravan arrives. What next?
