SHIT AMBUSH. All freaking lashers too.

EDIT: More squads, but thankfully no marksgobbos. I'm just letting my dwarves practice on the loiterers.

EDIT2: SUCCESS. They retreated!

14th Malachite

It just occurred to me that the next overseer will need some notes on what I did during my reign. It is a bit late to start the log, truthfully, but either way I'll just recount what important stuff happened.

I've noticed that we hit loads of magnetite and coal, and we have over 99 iron bars. Probably more. And still have plenty, plenty, plenty more magnetite and hematite to smelt. All our furnaces are running at full speed, and we got so much iron that I've taken to making iron bins.

Previously, we had a goblin ambush, traded successfully with the elves, and have butchered multiple rheses macaques and badger boars, both caged and non-caged. The fighting arena has been cleaned out (just this once, I used quantum dumping, also for stripping the caged goblins) and is running at average capacity.

We have two new squads due to a huge migrant wave so we'll be armed and ready anytime later. All of them are armed and armored, thanks to our seemingly endless supply of iron.

I've also started digging deeper and began laying out some bedrooms so my colleagues can stop complaining about not sleeping in their own room. Really, though, I don't see a difference.

28th Malachite

Damn, more migrants! Let's take a look at em...

At least there's only 10 of them. Sadly, none of them with any fighting skill. I'll just draft them to work as furnace operators.

1st Galena

One of our surgeons reacted strangely to the newcomers. He quickly withdrew from all contact and is now wandering around.

Now he took a craftsdwarf workshop, hopefully he becomes a legendary stonecrafter, we need more of those...

2nd Galena

Looks like I'm going to be right, he picked up a stone and quickly got to work.

7th Galena

I was right.

What the hell?!

This is the cheapest artifact I have ever seen! You don't deserve to be legendary! A bin full of crap mugs is worth more than that!

18th Galena

Human caravan arrived. I'll just dump our crafts onto them so that next year they bring more goods. At this point, I don't really care how much profit they make, just as long as they take away those useless crafts and leave the bins empty.

20th Limestone

Finally, the humans left. With all of those goblin clothes and stuff we hated. That includes the only dwarf bone earring and dwarf bone crown we will ever have in our fortress.

Damn goblins. I've already set up so that half of the caged ones (all stripped down) will be slaughtered by our military.

23rd Limestone

For some random reason, one of our farmers decided to take a break in our gladiator arena. With 10+ goblins, two rhesus macaques, and one badger boar glaring at him. He's a dabbling axedwarf whom I drafted.

This guy is going to go to great heights in warfare. Along with the cook who joined him in there.

Spoiler: OOC (click to show/hide)

1st Sandstone

A new month, and a new migrant wave. Oh boy.

Again, only ten, this time though half of them have great fighting skills. Up they go in the draft...!

14th Sandstone

At this point, most of the fortress is running itself. Booze, food, and iron (not to mention weapons) are plentiful. In fact, I believe we have more total iron (including the stuff in weapons) than stone as of now!

All our squads are training and will soon become more and more skilled while I wait for my miners to dig out the passageway to the goblin-releasing levers. Hopefully by then they'll be ready to take on the gobs. They're already stripped, so the job shouldn't be that hard.

12th Timber

Well, that didn't go as planned.

Turns out only the armor of the goblins were stripped off. They still held weapons. We lost one dwarf to them (and another slow one to drawbridge crushing) and about 7 or so are severely wounded. However, we did have a lot of people becoming a lot more skilled at fighting. Luckily for us we didn't lose too much, and now we get some doctors to train.

Such is the life in Foldedlens.

If we have that much iron ready to use, maybe start fitting everyone in iron armor, just keep their squads in reserve status all the time and let them do civilian jobs while wearing armor?  Does that work? Very Dwarfy if so!

holy shit, i didn't think we'd have that much after mining out a single magnetite pocket.  :o

also, i suggest producing steel if you haven't already. IIRC there's flux on the main level.

That magnetite pocket 1 or 2 levels down from the original main area is absurd.  Probably 400 tiles, if not more.

I found more magnetite and even some hematite. We also have galena, malachite, and cobaltite, not to mention others i forgot about. We also have tetrahedrite. This is all in the area before hitting the first cavern layer.

We even hit a bit of platinum, three blocks to be exact. Soon after that the mayor mandated production of platinum goods.

EDIT: We now also have five legendary miners and a huge 20+ by 50+ storage room full of stone and ore.

Edit2: Our mayor is also an experienced axedwarf if I am correct. At the very least he's part of the military and has some decent fighting skills.

18th Timber

The liason and caravan from the mountainhomes has arrived. This is bad news for us. Half of our (pretty bad) army is in the hospital and an ambush is probably tagging along with the caravan. Thankfully I have set up an exterior gate which should kill quite a few gobbos and capture the rest. However, we are in no shape for a full-blown siege.

We'll just have to be on guard. I'm posting the marksdwarves at the gate entrance just to be safe.

20th Timber

The military has begun cracking. Avus Arzon, a milita captain, has become melancholy. I have decided to de-equip everything he has, although he already stopped being a captain after going insane.

I have started construction of a mist generator, hopefully it will be done in time before the rest go insane.

Also, on a side note, it has been noticed that some of the patients refuse to rest, and therefore cannot be diagnosed. For what reason they refuse to rest, I do not know. Probably because they're hungry and thirsty. I've put off bringing stuff to the depot to get the idlers to give water, etc.

21st Timber

Rigoth, a recruit, has been loudly complaining about his inability to refill his waterskin. His complaints are turning out to be louder than the merchants arriving and unloading their goods.

Now he want to pick up equipment too. God, why won't he just go to the hospital and rest so he doesn't die of his injuries?

27th Timber

I've started construction of the mist generator over a part of the main stockpile. However, I may not finish it due to inability to understand what the hell are mechanics and not needing it at all. Some of the unhappy are cheering up that they survived.

Rigoth is still complaining. Only Armok knows when he will stop.

28th Timber

Hopefully the medics will take Rigoth back to the hospital and treat him quickly because at this rate I am going to go insane.

Take Rigoth out of the military until he heals?

If he's got nerve damage in his arms/hands, he'll spam messages as he tries to pick up weapons.
