it's quite simple, you just need a 2 level, dwarf powered, pump stack. here's the side veiw.

you can make the pump stack one level higher if you want to route the water to the center of the room.

I understand it but I want to make it powered by windmills and not dwarves, since they routinely leave work to go eat and drink.

Problem is I dug the sections too close to the walls of the fort, so unless I make the windmill a z-level higher than the fortress I can't do anything.


It doesn't appear that I'll need it anyways since the unhappiness is going away by itself. Thank Armok only one insane.

5th Moonstone

After relieving Rigoth of military duty to get him to shut up, he immediately began shouting about the inability to haul stuff to bins. Soon after though, he shut up.

Now I can get some work done...

14th Moonstone

Since our broker decided "What the hell, I'm tired of trading, I'll just go sleep until they leave." I got a miner to trade for us. Skills didn't really matter though as we gave the mountainhomes an 8K profit so that next year they bring better stuff. I'm putting ammo and steel as the highest priority for next year's caravan.

26th Moonstone

Carp.



I've told everyone to go to the burrows and to pull the levers to separate the fortress with the outside world. The merchants still haven't left yet, hopefully they will get out before I am forced to trap them in.

Well, looks like that's a no. I'm walking over to the lever as I write this. I've also closed up the glass bridge just to be safe.

28th Moonstone

Now that we're cut off, I've sent the marksdwarves to take potshots at the thing. Hopefully the thing dies before the merchants go insane; we don't want to lose potential metals they might bring if they bring back all that profit.

I'm watching the archers as we speak; they're missing every shot. The minotaur's too fast, not much I can do about that... he went off to try to kill a turkey.

Argh. At this rate, the merchants shall go insane. That is unacceptable.

3rd Opal

I'm playing with death now as we speak. I have temporarily put down both bridges in hopes to attract the minotaur. The plan is apparantly working, almost too well, as the minotar is charging over towards the bridges...

Damn, he doesn't keep coming. He knows my plan... I'll have to do this very carefully. Maybe I can trap him in between...

6th Opal

Oh shit. We are fucking doomed.

Due to stupid lever pullers not being fast enough, the minotaur has gotten in. I have pulled the golden bridges up and mobilized the military in a full assault. Wish us luck, Armok. We will need a lot of that.

...And I fall down laughing from the report. This minotaur makes us so hyped up when we don't even realize that its not a building destroyer. Right now its caged and perfectly safe. They're building it into the gladiator's arena as I speak. I wonder how well three goblin thieves will do against one giant minotaur.

While they get around to moving the cage a brave (and possibly stupid) mason is hanging around it. Apparantly he's using his once-a-year break to let the minotaur growl and glare at him.

Some recruit got angry at me for sending him out then stopping him from killing the minotaur and is now throwing a fistfight tantrum. I eagerly await his doom versus the 15 other military dwarves around him, about half with better skills.

Turns out he's stupid and tried to attack me, good thing he gave up before getting cut to pieces.

9th Opal

Some farmer guy decided to try his hand at an artifact. He believes we dont' know, but its quite obvious through his secretive nature.

5th Obsidian

Preparations for the battle are nearly complete. The current fight is our non-stripped down minotaur versus 6 goblins and a badger boar. For some reason my buddies wanted the badger boar in, so I glady allowed it.

Including that, I have set up a recaging/killing hall so that there will be no uncaged survivors after the fight ends. Two layers of cage traps and a single weapon trap in the two hallways seems to be enough.



We are currently taking bets in the fortress. Most are rooting for the minotaur. I'm with them.

OOC: If you want me to add more goblins, tell me what type. The six gobbos are 4 thieves, one swords, and one lasher.

24th Obsidian

Our Diagnoser has gone insane due to some lack of materials. Personally I don't really care, as from what I've checked we have had everything he needs. Good thing he just went melancholy or else I'd have to close up the forges.

3rd Granite

Apparantly I've overstayed my time as overseer, as now the new mayor is bickering at me to just go back to axedwarfing. However, I requested that I stay in control over the fort until I get the gladiator arena down and running.

He said he would get back to me. What do you say guys?

Keep going  :D I love the updates and whoever's next can do a full year just end at a squiffy time a month or whatever doesn't matter too much

I don't think anyone will mind a few days if you have a project you are working on.  Nothing's more annoying than seeing what looks like a 90% finished project that you just can't figure out.

wait, i just thought of something... what if the minotaur doesn't kill the gobbos? IIRC all hostiles are friendly towards each other. that will be a really !FUN! room for the military to clear if it happens to work like that.

ah well, my worries aside, let us continue... FOR !!SCIENCE!!

What the hell, I'll just post the link later today.

To tell what the next guy should do...

1) Wait for the mechanisms to be finished attached to the cages. The lever is the top most lever on the right behind the gladiator's arena.
2) Pull the lever on the outside first. That will raise the two containment bridges.
3) Pull the top right lever.
4) Watch fight.
5) Pull the two levers in 2) and 3) again, once.
6) Watch the survivors get caged.
