One article. And another.

So, as many of you are probably completely unaware, the Vancouver Canucks lost a hockey game last night. In a completely unsurprising turn of events, the city went completely apeshit. Brawling, looting, burning police cruisers, the whole shebang. This is not the first time, but was apparently worse. My sister watched the game on one of the big-screens set up downtown, had to walk around burning cop cars and bear-effigies to get home.

Just thought I'd start a topic, since this is pretty close to home for me, and some of the pictures are absolutely priceless. Example:

I think that is a mannequin leg covered in blood.

Personally, I find it embarrassing not only that this is all it takes to instigate a riot, but that it's completely unsurprising when it happens. I'm a Canucks fan, sure, I watched the game and it was terrible, but what the hell is the point of rioting? Is it sending a message? Or, more accurately, is it sending one you want to send? Seems like, for most people, it was just an excuse to stir some shit up. Thoughts on sports riots?

The rioters were not real canucks fans. VPD Chief is implying heavily that these are known anarchists who have bought Canucks jerseys to blend into the crowd to incite violence.  Many arrested so far have been linked to events in Toronto and Montreal.

Unless they were all anarchists, that still means that there were people rioting because someone else lost a game.

I think it's a bit of a cop-out to say that the anarchists present were responsible for the riot. It's very likely they anticipated a riot, as many people did (historical precedence and everything) and decided to show up.

Nice work sports fans. Protip: YOU CARE TOO MUCH. It is a game, if you get that upset about losing, then you have mental issues.

And yes, that is a blood splattered mannequin leg.

These photos are goldmines.  If you didn't know better, you'd think the whole thing was staged.  That guy is the ultimate "come at me bro" pic, because he's so goddamn into it for no good reason.

Professional photographer from Getty Images, he has been contacted and interviewed and it is totally legit - he's even showed some other angles from less skilled photographers, but he was at the right place at the right time.

I actually work a few blocks from where that all happened, but I was nowhere near there when the riots were happening.
