WarLight - a free online multiplayer Risk-style wargame
« on: June 16, 2011, 11:04:29 am »

Just stumbled onto this gem a few days and decided to share.

I'm pretty sure you've all heard about Risk boardgame and many played it. WarLight is a pretty good clone, with lots of additional features, such as loads of new maps (users can create more), cards for one-time advantage (such as ability to turn your territory neutral with addition of new armies or ability to see an enemy territory), lots of game customization (including how luck affects the game), tournaments and much more. You can also get a paid membership (30$ for lifetime) for nifty features such as game statistics and ability to create games with up to 24 players.

And now a few screenshots to sum it up:

Does it support PBEM/slow paced games?  I didn't see such on a quick check of the page.

Oh yes, I almost forgot - there're two modes of playing - real-time (played in one sitting) and multi-day (self-explanatory). Not exactly PBEM since you still have to make your moves ingame, but pretty close.

Hmm... if it's all played in a browser that's close enough.  I'll check it out.

I was playing the intro SP levels.  Got to the third... holy crap that's a big map.  Had to stop partway- I have all of North and South America except for Greenland, most of Antarctica, and am moving into Africa on two fronts.

On the third single player map also. The western hemisphere is entirely mine. Moving into Antarctica, sending big forces into Asia and Africa but that's more tentative. This is addicting.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Actually, that map is one of the smaller ones, with about 160 territories. The most often played are ones with 200, 330 and 520 territories, and there's even one with 3100. ;) And, of course, you can always create your own, even larger.

Dear god 3100 would take forever.

So when are the B12 games starting?

As soon as we get 6 players in one place at one time. Actually, there's a glitch that allows free players to create games with more than 6 people, but for start let's get a basic game together. I'll wait to see if this thread gains more interest before starting to organize everything.
