First of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
Komra asked for his office to be smoothed and engraved, so I told the

engravers to get to it. However, they had to finish smooth and

engraving Squid's room first. I didn't want Squid tantruming because

his room isn't good enough quality for a mayor.
Second of Malachite, Summer, Year 8 Most of the furniture for

Squid's room has been built. Most of it still needs to be hauled in

there, though.
Third of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
I went down to the mine today to check on the progress, and only two of

the six layers of adamantine we peirced still have ore in them that is

safe to mine.
When I came back up from the mines, I noticed a stray alpaca in the

dining room. I marked it to be butcher so that Kivish could use it's

leather.
Fourth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
Today, Squid decided to ban the export of crowns.
Unfortunately, they make up part of our trade exports this year.
Hopefully, the ban will have ended by the time the human traders come

to visit.
Fifth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
I was eating in the dining room today when I heard a terrible squeal.
The alpaca had been butchered. Hopefully it will provide enough leather

for Kivish.
Later I was told that the alpaca had only supplied us with wool instead

of leather. So I marked a billy goat kid for butchering.
Sixth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
I ordered one of every type of gem we have cut today. We might need cut

gems sooner or later...
Seventh of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
The billy goat kid was butchered today, this time it provided leather.
Nineth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
Migrants arrived today. Luckily, they were coming from the bordered

where it wasn't snowy. I had to go and greet them, nonetheless. This

wave we got a siege operator, a fishery worker, a weaver, a peasent, a

gem setter, a fish cleaner, and a wax worker. I was watching the

migrants walk to the fortress, when all of a sudden the seige operator

began screaming bloody murder. I ran down the hill to him to see what

the ruckus was, and then I saw what he was screaming about. All it was

was just a measly goblin snatcher. I yelled to the militia by the trade

depot to attack the goblin, when ANOTHER snatcher was sighted.
Tenth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
I ended up going inside the fortress to keep everything calm, it wasn't

until today that I got the official reports of the incident. Turns out

the goblins were too nimble for our military, and managed to flee the

area before being apprehended.
After everything had settled down I went to check on Kivish, and

noticed that among the usual piles of sketches of materials, there were

some new sketches. Sketches of stacked cloth. I went down the the loom

to see if we could weave some cloth, and we had all the waterials. So I

told most of the dwarves claiming to have no job that they could go

down and weave the cloth.
Twelfth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
One one of the six layers of the Adamantine vein still has raw

adamantine that is safe to mine. Soon we may have to dig deeper.
As I was coming back up from the mine, I checked on the loom, and saw a

seige operator working on spinning some rope reed cloth.
Hopefully we will get all the Materials Kivish needs soon.
Squids quarters are fully engraved, so he finally thinks that his

quarters are fit for a mayor. However we are still working on his

office, along with Komra's.
Thirteenth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
Today I took my booze down to the loom and watched as the weaver there

finished spinning some Rope Reed cloth. He finished it quickly, so I

went bakc up to watch Kivish.
Starngely, he countinued to sit in the clothiers shop and rapidly

sketch drawings. So I ordered more cloth to be woven
Fourteenth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
I have begun to worry for Kivish. We have all of the supplies he needs,

and yet he doesn't run to collect them....
Seventeenth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
I fear that Kivish will never make whatever he is planning. I even made

a stockpile full of the materials he requested right beside him and yet

he still doesn't claim any of the items...
Nineteenth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
Erib, a craftsdwarf gave birth in the stariway down to the mines today.

The father is apparently Fikod, an animal caretaker, and the baby has

two older siblings, a brother and a sister.
Twenty First of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
The first Adamantine helm was forged recently. I made sure to claim and

wear it immediatly, my old steel helm now belongs to Conan.
Twenty Second of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
There is no more raw adamantine that we could mine safely that is

accessible now. I ordered the miners to dig deeper.
Twenty Fifth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
The next layer of adamantine was safe. I ordered it all to be mine out.
Twenty Sixth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
The second adamantine helm was forged today.
Later, I saw some tanner pick it up, but not wear it, so I assumed he

was taking it to a stockpile or something.
Twenty Eighth of Malachite, Summer, Year 8
The recently uncovered layer of adamantine has been mined out. I think

i shall wait before digging to the next layer.

Woo, but the problem is the hammer. Get him full armor though.

we got lots of tetrahedrite which means lots of copper and silver, the best (non-mood) materials for a war hammer / mace.

Yeah.  Thus why I didn't make a trap.  In it's current state the fortress didn't need a trap, the whole damn fortress is a trap.

I think Kivash might want ANIMAL cloth. Use the wool gotten from the dead alpaca and weave it. Go to the loom and queue "Spin Wool" or something.

I read this comment after writing the next month's update.
Also, I attempted to do that, but apparently I did not have enough wool, and I think we had some Animal wool left from the elves.
Also Kivish went melancholy in the next update...

First of Galena, Summer, Year 8
I am sitting and watching Kivish, he seems as if he'll go insane any minute now due to lack of materials, yet he has brought this fate upon himself by not gathering the materials we have made for him.

Work on engraving Komra's Office began today, hopefully it'll be quick and easy, as all the previous engraving jobs have been.

Second of Galena, Summer, Year 8
Squid still doesn think his dining room/office is fit for a mayor, so I organized a few statues to be placed.

Later, I also designated a statue garden to be made. Hopefully more dwarves will throw parties once it is finished, as it is certainyl a time for revelery!
Third of Galena, Summer. Year 8
I have decided to make the main hallway of the fortress longer, to accomodate more rooms if needed. The miners have already started on the project and are making quite a bit of progress.
Fourth of Galena Summer, Year 8
Since so much is being renovated currently, I have decided to tear down some of the walls in the cavern in favor of a gatehouse, so our woodcutters will actually have something to do!
I checked the stock papers, and we have everything require, except for 3 floodgates. The final Gatehouse will have floodgates, with stonefall traps on either side of the gates. The gatehouse will have a lever connected to the floodgates inside, as well as a remote lever, located inside of the fortress.
Sixth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
The two pairs of adamantine greaves for Conan and I were finished today! Unfortunately, I have not had the time to pick the greaves up, and when I do, the armorsmiths keep telling me that there's been some sort of "Equipment Mismatch" and won't let me have the greaves. So one of the pairs is sitting in the stockpile, and the other at the forge.
Seventh of Galena, Summer, Year 8
Project: Cavern gatehouse has run into a snag.
Aquifier.
I order the aquifier in question to be mine out before any accidents occur.
Eighth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
The Statue garden is almost fully mined out!
The hallway in front of the garden has been completed, but a few more urists of natural walls are still blocking the way...
Nineth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
A brave miner, Jeffery, mined away the aquifier today, without any trouble. The only aftermath is that a few urists of the walled in cavern is now covered in water that is about one seventh of a urist high.
Tenth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
Squid still doesn't think that his office and dining room is good enough, so I ordered a few more statues to be moved into the room.
Eleventh of Galena, Summer, Year 8
Kivish was stricken by Melancholy today because we wasn't able to find materials for his great reation that were sitting right in front of him.
Twelth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
I don't think the urist of stone that was mined out earlier was actually the aquifier. I think I got the right area this time.
Thirteenth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
I chose Conan to replace Kivish as our broker, since he is beter then all of the other dwarves at appraising things.
Also, Squid STILL doesn't think his Dining Room/Office is up to par.
Fourteenth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
One of the recruits thought it would be funny to track the blood of those elf merchants into the aquifier.

Har har.
Fifteenth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
The Statue garden is mined out, now the statues just need to be placed, along with some doors, and soon our fortress will have a REAL place to party.
Sixteenth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
I told the miners to dig a pit to collect the quifier water, but they just came running back saying that they had run into damp stone...

Amidst of all the reports of damp stone being hit that I got from the miners, I suddenly got a notice that a human caravan had arrived! I immediatly sent notice to our new broker, and made sure certain goods were hauled to the depot.
I ended up marking all of our non-crown stone crafts, some cloth bins we took from the elves, some stone blocks that were intended for Kivish, and five boulders of raw adamantine, since the humans were paying 750 dwarfbucks worth of goods for them.
Nineteenth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
The Humans finally got to the depot today, and the miners finally got thoruhg all the damp stone, and are digging another water collection pit right now.
Twentieth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
An adamantine breastplate was completed today, naturally I was the lucky dwarf it went to. After I got it, I went to pick up a pair of adamantine gauntlets that were finished, too. Then I went to help bring stuff up to the depot. I took a peek at the humans good's and saw nothing too interesting, besides some bins of leather and tons of wood.
Twenty First of Galena, Summer, Year 8
Today someone told me that a stray goat had starved to death. But then, squid told me that on the way to the depot, he saw a doe rabbit give birth, so I guess the two events kind of balance each other out. The sculpture garden is coming along nicely, too!
Twenty Second of Galena, Summer, Year 8
I told Conan to do part of the trading with the humans today, then do the rest when all of the trading items were brought up to the depot. We managed to buy out a good half of the stock witht he items we had already brought up, and that didn't include the raw adamantine boulders!
Twenty Third of Galena, Summer, Year 8
I ordered the miners to dig some more water collection trenches, so naturally, they had to send in a report of every urist of damp stone they run into.
Twenty Fourth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
A snow storm started today, naturally, the humans had dressed for a snow storm, so they complained for the duration of it. Also, squid still doesn't think his room is good enough, so I put a weapon rack in there.
Twenty Sixth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
The new trenches are complete, and the statue garden is almost complete. I saw farmerbob check out the statue garden during his break.
(Seriously. Farmer bob just walked in the statue garden, then walked out. The entire time he was listed as "On Break")
Today we also did the last of the training. All the humans left with that they came with was some arrows and a couple of berries.
Hopefully later we will have a legendary metalcrafter, and we'll be able to make masterwork adamantine crafts studded with adamantine. The humans are foolish enough to trade their entire supply for one of the things! Can you imagine them coming home, with their wagons and packmules, just carrying a ring?
Twenty Eighth of Galena, Summer, Year 8
Though we have 177 boulders of raw adamantine, I feel like we may need to dig another layer deeper. The boulders are so valuable that a caravan will typically trade their entire stock for just 15 boulders of the stuff.

EDIT: Wow, I can't believe I screwed up like that. I must've loaded the .txt file for the wrong update.

all the engravings are probably really low quality in Squid's room, so they don't boost the value much. i suggest smoothing out the rest of the bedroom level before engraving anything else. (after my room is done of course!)

Don't trade adamatine  >:( We need moar armor!
I only had to trade 6 boulders, so we have 50 wafers worth of raw adamantine and counting. Most of the armor is done except for One pair of gaunlets, One Breastplate, and two pairs of boots.
What we really need to worry about is charcoal/wood supplies.

The adamantine was at Z-level 100.
There are only 40 more Z-levels left in the map.

candy canes can extend several (thousand) z levels above the magma sea. you've probably been hitting the magma sea before the candy.

Do we have rats? Squid totally digs rat leather. She cannot possibly be expected to cater to the needs of her constituents if her furniture isn't upholstered in rat leather.
