Goblin Camp 0.15
« on: June 14, 2011, 03:32:40 pm »

I know there is a topic about this but it's almost a year old and the game has been updated quite a bit since then. Anyway, I just started to play this game and I would think here at B12 there would be more support for this game. Maybe the opposite though because of the glaring similarities between this and DF. GC seems like DF with training wheels but for someone like me who doesn't really have the time or the mental stamina involved for digging through hot magma, it can be a really nice change of pace. Honestly if DF had the same great mouse driven UI that GC had, I would probably play DF but until then(if that ever happens) Goblin Camp is nice alternative.

So does anyone play this??

I do. The game is really awful and boring in the beginning, here's how I would describe it.

The beginning of GC is like climbing up a volcano made of spikes with lava pouring down, it is raining boulders, archers are firing at you from the top, all your berries have rotted and you are starving and dehydrated.

Other than that the game is great. The only big issue I see is the human soldier bug... *shudder*

Hmm.. Well I just started playing last night and after a few times and for some reason some terrible graphic glitches with the tilesets I've managed to survive a year so I haven't expereienced all those horrible problems you have mentioned. My first harvest was plentiful but my storage was all over the place and I had a hard time trying to condense all my food, planks, etc.. into the proper storage spaces. I've watched the only video tutorial (that was very well made I must say) but there is still much I need to learn. I guess good old trial and error will have to do. Going to start a new world when I get home from work and this time I guess I'm going to build a stockpile of crates first and then assign it after they are complete and I hope this will fix my messy storage problem.

Now, I'm scared of trekking up that volcano...  :)

Yes, Deon, you should complete your tileset for GC.  I go back and check the game for any news almost every day, and while I've stopped playing it cause developement is still on going, your awesome tileset may just be what it needs to get going again, Deon.  8)

Ditto. I think I remember seeing that in the forums. Looked great! For some reason I can only play with the default tileset because I get weirdness with the wasteland/jungle if I use openGL or the other option(I forget what it's called, GDL something..), The only way the other tilesets to display right is when I use the render setting simply labeled Tileset but that eats up mad CPU and runs at around 10 FPS for some reason... :(

Use teh original 'Tileset' option, joey4track, instead of GLSL Tilset or OpenGL Tileset.  Currently none of the available tiles support either of those; but the original Tileset option still renders them properly.  I know, I had those issues when I first got back into it sense the update.  ;D

Thanks for the info. That's terrible though, for some reason when I use the 'Tileset' option my cpu usuage is crazy high and I get a terrible framerate. And I have a gtx 9800 + so I don't know what's wrong...  :(

Did you purposly just discribe the Aggro Crag from Nickelodeon Guts?

GC is fun enough. The worst bug right now is that dumping anything (even extra items) causes your population to explode.

I don't think I've made it far enough to see some major bugs.. A little discouraging because it seems like updates are few and far between... But I was thinking this game would be a hundred times better if someone made a mod that would add sound effects!  8)

For an entire game written, coded, and published by a single dude, I say its very nice.  From what I get from the last few blog updates, the guys actually working on a whole new stockpile system, which should be both interesting and cool to play around with, especially given the complexity of the current system.
