Running around on a hacking rampage is the most unprofessional way of doing it, they love the attention, this is going to end poorly for them.
How are you going to find the names of people behind a bot network that operate trough a secure connection via Eritrea to Russia? (To name an example)

I'm soooo going to love the look on the face of the police officer who thought he was smart by doing that, only to realize months later, after they have tracked the owner down, that said person is in fact completely innocent. (don't tell me you never faked an identity on the internet)

Assuming they find out he's innocent of course, else I'm just going to claim schadefreude.

Virex are you saying it is effectively imposable to locate them?
I am unsure of the implications of these things you brought up.

The only way to stop as far as I know is to step up security.

Yeah, and also, I think about half of their targets probably never thought they'd be hacked.

Nobody is untraceable, but I think that people that can bring down 6 high-ranking on-line services in less then a day are smart enough not to use a twitter account linked to one of their names.

Well then I take back my statement about them regretting it, because if someone is going to be running around hacking, it is better that a vocal group do it, then having a group that does it and tells noone.

Their twitter account is a perfect exercise/study on how to be an asshole.

Also mostly sums up my feelings on the subject.

It's all minorly amusing until the lulz are at your expense.

There's been quite a few congratulatory posts on Reddit lately about the activities of a group called "LulzSec".

There are people that have been congratulating Lulzsec? Why would anyone offer praise to such arrogant baboons?

Quote
That puts these people on the same level as Turkish hacking groups that deface websites and put the Turkish flag everywhere.

This happens?

What you should not do:
-discuss the ethics of hacking; that belongs in another thread

Just a reminder: this thread is meant to collect data about hacks to create a timeline of sorts, not a discussion about the ethics or particular events. That sort of chatter has resulted in every previous thread about hacking in GD being locked; I would prefer it not happen to this one.

On another note, updating the list with the new stuff from today. I'm adding the DDoS's under the same position on the list; if today is any indication, if I keep track of every DDoS on any given day, the list will be flooded with them before long.

Don't give Lulzsec more credit than they deserve. These sites were on the upper end of mid-level security at best. The most impressive thing they've done was the government website. The security present on Bethesda or CCP or Riot Games don't have anything on the security at a bank or upper level government database or a major corporation.

This is like being on first violin in your high school band and telling everybody how much better you are than Antonio Vivaldi.
