Problem is, you have too many legislators whose understanding of the Internet is so limited that they'll see an example like that and say, "What? They can do that?? Clearly then we need to restrict access to the Internet based on national security."

Thankfully, the business lobbies will for once serve a useful purpose by thumping the pols on the head and reminding them that doing that would deprive the businesses of customers, hence profits, hence campaign contributions.

You mean you know a sound way to prevent people like LuzSec from taking the pentagon off-line at a whim without policing the Internet (because let's face it, this time they were just showing off)? You do realize you could make millions with that?

No, I'm saying that their knee-jerk reaction would be to restrict Internet access for everyone who doesn't have a security clearance. The fact that that would be: A) nearly impossible and B) an economy-destroyer, wouldn't be readily apparent to some of them because they live in a world where other people handle all that stuff, and just read the important things to them, or print it out in a very condensed format.

The average legislator/policy maker doesn't read their own email. And hundreds of pages of research get condeensed into twenty page reports, which get boiled down into 1-2 page executive summaries, which then get summarized in a daily report as a single paragraph. If it's lucky.

As for the Pentagon, it's significantly more robust than the US Senate's main webpage. DOJ and DOD expect to be targets, so they have hardened networks and security protocols in place. The Senate webpage is probably maintained by a couple of interns.

EDIT: In any case, we're doing what the OP requested we not do. I'll stop now.

3 more hacks from lulzsec, Escapist magazine's website, Eve Online and MineCraft.
Also 'finfisher', according to that link; with more to come apparently. To be able to DDoS that many targets successfully, several at the same time, seems to indicate it may be DDoS with a pretty decent botnet.

Is anyone else secretly hoping they'll keep EvE or Minecraft off-line indefinitely?

Minecraft is already back up; EvE likely either already is or soon will be back up. They seem to be simply hitting as many targets as they can for about 30 minutes each. LulzSec's twitter account seems it will be something to keep an eye on today.

Man, if they're going to f**k with DOJ, please let them wait until after 5pm tomorrow, so I don't have to deal with it. After that, knock yourselves out guys.

Lulzsec attacked Minecraft for some reason. Even for the lulz doesn't seem right.

It's a big target, and may have 'lulz' security. I sure hope a particular site of great Adam brotherhoodism has decent security.

Why not? It's not like there's a reason to pass up on Minecraft just because people like the game. If anything that makes it a better target for trolling.

Running around on a hacking rampage is the most unprofessional way of doing it, they love the attention, this is going to end poorly for them.
