LCS Advice needed!
« on: June 13, 2011, 11:22:37 am »

So I started this game pretty much having no idea what to expect, and played a few games of it.  Now I have some questions!

1)  Once I have my maximum members, how do I get more?

2)  I think the point of the game is to turn government policies liberal.  Any advice on how exactly this is done?

3)  Is there a time limit or anything?  Should I be in a rush to recruit/steal cars/bust up conservative equipment or should I take my time and try to increase my funds and skills?

4) Any other advice is appreciated!

1. There's no such thing as maximum members (apart from memory limitations etc, but these aren't typically of any concern). Every Liberal has a maximum amount of direct subordinates, but as followers may have followers of their own, you can have an arbitrarily large organization. Also, converting people by kidnapping them will not consume follower slots.

2. You can't direct the laws yourself, but you can influence the public opinion. Public opinion determines the outcomes of Senate/Congress elections and Presidential elections. Also, they vote directly for law changes once a year. Congress votes twice a year and needs either presidential approval or 2/3 majority. Supreme court votes once a year and may change on of its Judges afterwards - the new Judge is appointed by the President.

3. There is no strict time limit, but if you take too long, Conservatives will pass the Arch Conservative amendment, and you'll lose the game. This'll take long, even if you do nothing to prevent it. Also, your founder, being only human, will eventually die of old age, but this takes very long as well and it won't end the game if you've got a suitable follower to take the post.

4. Having Judge sleepers helps in trials. A lot.

Okay, that helps a lot!

So can any of the people I recruit do their own recruiting?

With a few caveats, yes:

1. Recruitment cap is influenced by juice - people with no juice may not be able to recruit
2. Enlightened (kidnapped and indoctrinated people) can't recruit

An easy way to get a cheapie recruiter going is to pick up a few prostitutes (they have good seduction/persuade skills), put them in groups of 2 then have them go find a random unarmed (just guess, you cant tell who is packing) conservative and belt crap out of them, then run as soon as they die/get away, you should be able to get 200 juice in a few attacks as long as your hookers are crap fighters (each punch gets you juice, so the weaker, the more punches, the quicker lvl up).  If you then get them to recruit random goons and have the goons go attack more people they will build leadership for your starting hookers, each point of leadership is another recruitment slot, capped by their juice level.

A grindish but safer way to get juice up to 200 (if you need to juice your prostitutes that is) is to have them ninja the few cages/machines closes to the door at various cosmetics/genetics/factories. Robbing the apartments also works (but is rather slow). A grind-free way is to have them hack, because they usually hit the 200 juice cap before before attracting too much attention.

Robbing the University Apartments however is fairly low risk/reward, and you can net $700 to $1000 a run depending on how far you push your luck. I think that's probably an easier way to start than possibly getting shot by security guards on site. However you have to take some security background at the start of the game, which some people may not want to do.

Getting security background is really smart in the latest release, as it's a hard-to-find skill and impossible to train from scratch. In trunk, however, there's the locksmith.

I always take security, but that's because I fancy myself a sneaky bastard. And I like having enough money for gear and 6 months worth of rent within the first few weeks.

I never was into burglary as a means of fundraising. Not that I don't think it works well, but I just wind up with more than enough money with less efficient fundraising methods as well...

Seduction lets liberals recruit 3-4 followers of their own without needing any juice, just decent Charisma (e.g. > 6 or 7) and a little grinding or teaching to get their skill up.

Seduction used to be awesome and is still quite cool. If I recall correctly, in earlier versions, it was fairly easy to pick up Arch Conservatives like Hangin' Judges and Eminent Scientists. Nowadays, I think recruiting tougher Conservatives is much harder, but the vacation option is quite effective and you don't need those cheap seductresses to be present always! Furthermore, prostitution is an extremely powerful way to raise funds, as unlike brownie sales, it does not decrease in power as the society grows more Liberal, and doesn't attract heat. Protitutes don't get caught too often after getting some experience avoiding stings.

However, last I checked, prostitution lowers juice. I always put useless enlightened on the job, like News Anchors with horrible skills and converted too late to be sleepers. Easy cash, but debrainwashed captives can be used as witnesses against other members.

A good way I make money is to bust into the garment makers and release some of the workers then make them start churning out police uniforms and sell them at the pawn shop.Once skilled enough they will also be able to make you any nearly any uniform very easily.

True, but the effect is very minor and decreases with street sense skill. Whenever a character engages in prostitution (they have a 2/3 chance of having a day off), there's a 1/3 chance of having a street sense roll (average difficulty), and failing that roll results in loss of 2 or less juice. You don't need godly street sense to bypass the check quite consistently, and since street sense trains while prostituting, experienced hookers seldom lose double digits during a single year. Good street ninjas are likely to not lose any juice at all even during extremely long periods of prostituting. A bigger concern is getting caught, but that's where your sleeper lawyers kick in. Street sense makes this one rare as well.

Fun fact: Avoiding a prostitution sting will actually increase juice! (by five points, capped at zero, but anyway)
