I think the bug is probably a result of my trying to do exactly that -- ensure you don't cause chaos when you're just trying to recruit.

The other thing you can do that is to train up just one or two people with weapons and then get their teaching skill through the roof. Then all you have to worry about is finding a nice place to put the entire LCS for a bit, sit, back, relax, and watch the rifle skill rise. Two ex-agents with double digit teaching ratings will get your combat skills up very nicely.

I usually don't worry about teaching skill, as training that 5 or so levels of rifle won't take too long any way and after that they've formed a self-sustained training unit (a Liberal death squad) capable of resisting most opposition.

My main thinking is that, even with the best strike team in existence, someone may get a lucky hit, or my Intelligence HQ run may go south, or I may make a stupid mistake and get everyone killed somehow. Even six dudes with body armor and rifles will take a few hits as you're trying to train them up. This way you only have to do hands on stuff for one group of people, and then they can sit around the safe house and give everyone else experience in multiple skills with little to no effort. When the CCS comes knocking, having a writing staff and a computer team with five points in rifles can seriously come in handy.

I'll admit that it's a little more useful for games with fewer squadmembers, and it works a lot better when a few characters have gotten to guardian or elite status.

I'm not saying that more skill isn't good, but I find a squad with ~5 rifle skills and good armor to be consistently able to hit the CCS, and after the first few operations they should be able to outlast most enemies except for particularly vicious siegers.

That's certainly true, it's just that I personally have a bad habit of accidentally closing sleeper warning windows and getting finely minced by the CIA, so I like to have a little extra punch to allow for human error.

You're right of course. Unless you're being wantonly reckless, you won't be in a situation where you need anything tougher than six bright-eyed idealists with military grade hardware and training.

My biggest issue is getting my dodge skill high enough, frankly. University classes tend to stop having any meaningful gains after dodge seven.

Actually I've listed the sleeper warning windows as an UI improvement request. They should require an explicit confirmation key, not the waiting key :) now that I mentioned it, I think I'll fix it in the trunk today.
