Polished stones as gemstones
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:25:00 am »

New job in Jeweler shop: make polished stones.

Always collect closest stone, like a mason shop makes blocks.

  1 sand + 1 <x> stone yields two polished <x> stone.

Polished stone has same value as normal stone (but you make 2 of them from 1 stone, remember)

Polished stone can be sold directly, used in decorating other items, OR as ammunition for slings...  If we ever get slings.

I sortof like the idea but why would slings need to have *pollished* stones and why would this

be worth the same as this

Seems like you are asking why smooth stone is more valuable than rough stone.

Polished stones have been used as jewelry for many years, and because of the time that goes into the polishing, they generally command at least a bit more price than unpolished stone.

As for sling ammo, *shrug* why not.  It creates an ammo type that takes a bit of work to make.

No not that. I dont understand why slings would require valuable ammo....Avtually, why the heck can you encrust ammo in the game in the first place? I guess this ammo can be engraved then.

Heh, sling ammo was made from lead during the bronze age, and was commonly molded with images or words on it.

An item, made from useless stone, that makes two pieces of higher quality stone, which can be used to decorate other items (or be decorated themselves, I like that idea better) and used as ammo in a sling.
Hell yes.

This is definitely doable now with a custom reaction:

Input : boulder

Output : Smallgem with boulder's original material.

They should work for decorating and everything.

Remember the sand - can't make it too easy.

Shrug. I assume anything that comes out of stonecrafting has been polished nice and smooth anyway.

I like this idea. Slings are boss, and polished engraved spheres would be interesting vendor trash to boot.

My support to this idea.

Should be allowed to be used in catapults, nothing better than proving to your enemy that you care about them than crushing them with masterfully polished marble spheres that menace with spikes.

Polished stones for ammo for catapults might also increase accuracy and range. On the other hand, we'd want these to be different then the ones dwarves would throw from slings. Otherwise, dwarven throwing arms would have a lot of explaining to do, or catapults armed in such a manner would be peashooters.

How dwarves use anvils to shape metal with no hammer is also making me wander what their fists are made of.

Fists?
Non-sense!
Dwarfs shape metal with their FACE!
