lol.

tbh: it all depends on the guards, they can make a totalitarian regeim were the prisoners hate them and will do nothing to help them, or they can try semi-indipendant prisoners who have some rights and libertys who wont cut the guards throats at first chance.

^^ going to be interesting.

As I see it it's more like love-hate relationship; neither party like yet still needs each other. Guards an personnel need prisoners to do all the hard labor and prisoners must rely on guards for protection.

If you ever need another dwarf for the grinder: Dohon, male Guard. Hammerdwarf preferred. Dohon believes that compassion instead of brutal punishment helps when dealing with prisoners. Not too much "mercy" for the inmates though, they are still scum of the earth stone.

Keep up the good work!

'Ok, Mr. Mayor, could you assign me to the Master Architect?'

Stronghammer stared at Niney, and then laughed.

'Hahaha, why should I? Besides, did you forgot you do not have ANY right in here?'

'It's not because I want to get, it's because I deserve to get it. If I didn't got permission to Keywalls to build that wall over there, we would have been dead already.'

Stronghammer pondered for a moment what Niney had said. The prisoner had a point there, the walls had helped the fortress to survive from several assaults already, there was no reason to deny that.

"Fine, you got a point there. You from now on you will be the Master Architect, though that titles doesn't promote you to the same level as every non-prisoner hear. But when we need architectual opinions you will be the one I will look for. You will also lead other masons and architects here, so you have a bit more power than normal prisoner."

Niney saluted and left the office, visibly satisfied by the result.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After Niney had left the office it was time to meet Yorilda, who had also requested an audience.

"Ah, Yorilda, what did you have in your mind?"

The priestess sat down to free chair. "I heard that you wanted some items made from rune bronze, am I right? I also heard that we don't have such material here."

Stronghammer eyed the dwarf in front of him with an interest. "Yes, that's true. What about it?"

"Well, as it happens, I know a way to solve the problem of lacking the material, if you are interested in hearing my suggestion."

The mayor leaned forward. The priestess had woken his full interest already. "Of course I'm interested. What will you need then?"

"Well, as you know, I'm a priestess of Armok. Yes, I serve other lesser deities as well, but I'm also a servant of Almighty Creator as well. Now, if you would order the construction of altars, temples and rune workshop any of us priests could turn normal bronze to rune bronze by using runes."

"So, you need a place to produce runes and a place where to worship Armok? Is there anyone qualified enough to produce those runes?"

"Any stone crafter will do, making runes is the easiest part. I, as well as any holy servant, can give guidance on that. We just need someone to actually do the work, and we will take care of rest."

Stronghammer leaned back. "Your offer is tempting. What specifically do you need?"

"Besides the rune workshop I need one altar, where we can sanctify few gems. Those gems are needed to build a temple, where we can sanctify more gems, which will be needed for the rune production. Any mason can do the construction, I will give the plans of the layouts when needed."

"But what if we don't have any tin to produce bronze?"

"Well, then things gets a bit more complicated. Not impossible, mind you. What we need then is lots of copper, more runes and we need to sacrifice those copper bars in hopes for bronze."

"And what would be the chance of getting bronze?"

"Depends on the mood of Armok. Quite good I would say, though there is no way to be sure."

"Alright then, go and find Niney, she just left my office before you came. Give her the construction details and see if you can get us some bronze first. If that's successful then see if you can turn that bronze to rune bronze."

"Understood!" Yorilda replied and left the office.

"So, you want to build the temple?"

"Yes, Niney, if you could. And I also heard you have been assigned as the Master Architect."

It has started. The test if he is able as a Master Architect. According with his grandfather, his ancestors were the one who helped to build Flarechannel.

"Let me see the building details."

The temple was a 5x5x5, forming a perfect cube. It also had to need the 2 statues of Bem, the god of Mountains and Shin, the god of jewels.

"Well, what a strange temple. Are you that's the bluepri-"

Suddenly, the ground started to shake.

Niney didn't panicked.

"Must be the miners. Probably caused another cave-in."

"Yeah... Possibly..." Yorilda was pale.

Suddenly, the two miners were running in the hallway.

"Hey Niney! Are you alright?"

"Holy Cacame. What was that quake?"

Niney stared at the two miners as if they were ghosts. 'Wait, if they weren't the one who caused the cave-in, then what could possibly caus-'

Another quake started.

Sorry for lack of updates!

I've been developing the mod further, which has basically took all the free time I have had. Work shifts and midsummer celebration has also messed up my schedule.

So, I will return to this story when I have played my turn in Twinklepulley.

Okay, I have finished my turn in Twinklepulley and going to continue this story.

I also just discovered that I have lost my progression since the autumn of year 103 begun. This is probably due my laptop automatically rebooting after Windows updated itself. Stupid autoupdater...  ::)

Basically this means that Rar has just been carried to hospital, and is under diagnosis. I have no jails built nor has Stronghammer made any mandates nor has assigned the captain of the guard. Dehon will still get the same dwarf as before, but after that the story may and most probably will change slightly. I will continue the story from the point where the game saved itself and will disregard what I have written before which has occurred after that specific point. Sorry for that...  :-[

OOC: I'm going to change the writing style. From now on I will use the diary format. Also, the dwarf I'm going to use can not be claimed even though I don't rename him.

5th of Limestone, year 103

My name is Ezum Keysprays. I have decided to write a diary to record everything that is happening around here.

One may wonder why I see it so important to record everything? Well, the story behind the decision is that, as a priest, I have been ordered to become private teacher of Lettersea, baby who one day will join the ranks of personnel when he is old enough, after he reaches the childhood. This is the reason why I saw it as a good idea to start this diary, just so that I have notes to refer when I'm teaching that child about the history of this prison fortress.

Now that's enough about me, it's time to turn my attention to the recent events. Rar, the militia commander, has been carried to hospital and the first diagnosis are done. The prognosis is very grim due his wounds, and very few actually believes that he will return the position of commander. And even if he does, how well can he fight, with crutch and mangled arms? Well, only time will tell, at least I keep praying for him every day, as we can't really afford to loose another good soldier.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

7th of Limestone, year 103

Stronghammer, the mayor of this fortress, has appointed Dohon to the position of Captain of the Guard. Basically he is just the sheriff of this place, though he is allowed to have up to nine soldiers under his command.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After the appointment Stronghammer also forbade the export of large gems. At least that's something the dumb prisoners can easily achieve, even though I wouldn't be surprised if someone goes and sell one of those gems to outsiders.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

15th of Limestone, year 103

Our chief doctor has been possessed! Armok has decided that this fortress deserves His attention to strengthen our faith to Him. And what would be better way than to guide one of us to produce item of great design and purpose.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We still don't know what materials the upcoming artifact will require nor what the item will be, but my faith to Armok says that it will be something grand.

In the mean while the construction of chambers for Dohon and Stronghammer continues. Few pieces of furniture are still missing and the chambers require smoothing and engraving, but otherwise those rooms are considered ready.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

21st of Limestone, year 103

The artifact ended up to be weapon rack made from cobaltite.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The rack has normal decorations as well as picture made with alunite. The picture details the killing of one of the elves by Ahra back in last year. Has it been that long already? It doesn't feel like so. Nevertheless, when I finish this entry I will sing a praising hymn for Armok, the Father of All Dwarves, as it was by His hands that this marvelous creation became true.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

22nd of Limestone, year 103

I just heard that Rar is out from hospital. Even though his injures were almost lethal somehow the doctors were able to patch him up. And he doesn't even need the crutch besides the prognosis the doctors gave after the first diagnosis. All praise Armok! This means that he is up and running, and even in condition to return to military again. This is excellent.

14th of Sandstone, year 103

We have a small wild dog problem outside. A herd has gathered east of our entrance, scaring the prisoners almost crazy. Our traps and archers have been able to cull the population a bit, but Stronghammer saw that it was necessary to send Rar out there to solve the problem once and for all. At least he will get some recovery training while killing those helpless creatures.

23rd of Sandstone, year 103

Another group of prisoners arrived to the fortress today, escorted by one guard and one personnel. Our population grew by eight dwarves, which is only a good thing.

The personnel who came with prisoners today was immediately appointed to the position of bookkeeper. I'm a bit annoyed by that, as that position was promised to student. Oh well, he wouldn't have been able to accept the position in several years anyway, so perhaps this is best for us. When he has grown up enough perhaps there will be another position open. I pray for Armok that it will be so.

7th of Timber, year 103

We have had some expansions finished here in Evercage. First of all our food storage is now bigger, as we literally ran out of room to store all the food supplies and alcohol we had.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next we have our own prison complex built inside one of the exhausted iron veins deep inside the fortress. Ten jails with iron chains has been constructed in request of Dohon. I discussed with him earlier today and he stated that the jails are meant to serve as crowd control in case of possible unrest. I don't blame him from taking our security seriously, though I hope the jails will be used rarely.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

14th of Timbe, year 103

Stronghammer decided that it was time to give Rar some subordinates. Three guards were assigned under his command. At the same time the order was given for his squad to use iron axes instead of bronze ones, which should increase their potential in battle.

Stronghammer also assigned four unemployed prisoners to work as additional miners. Four copper picks were created for this, and the first task given to them was to mine out huge storage for bolts just inside the entrance, next to the stairs leading up in the walls. When this storage is completed our archers doesn't have to run all the way to the old stockpiles just to grab new set of bolts during the fights.

18th of Timber, year 103

The annual caravan from mountain home arrived today. And right behind them came a small goblin ambush squad!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The caravan and the liaison reached the fortress safely, though unfortunately one of the caravan guards was slain by the goblin arrows.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Stronghammer gave a strict order than nobody should venture outside while the goblins are there. Instead of rushing to meet them we should let them to come here, and be slain by traps and our archers. It sounds like a good plan to me, and even Dohon agreed with it. So, until the goblins are dealt, the poor guard won't be buried properly.

23rd of Timber, year 103

The clash with the goblins is over. Unfortunately three of our prisoners decided not to follow the orders, and thus were killed by the goblins. In top of that there were more than one squad ambushing us, two squads tried to enter our fortress from east and one from west. During the mayhem Stronghammer was forced to send Rar and his squad outside, and so the battle didn't go as planned.

The result was that, fortunately, the goblins were either slayed or driven away. But while we were victorious two of our soldiers were founded as well as two prisoners. The doctors are busy with tending the wounded right now so we don't have any information of how serious the wounds are. Let's hope that both of the soldiers are able to return to duty sooner or later.

While the battle took place Stronghammer did some trading negotiations with the caravan. For hefty sum, payed in crafts, he bought alcohol, metal bars, cages, empty barrels, bolts and anvils. But even though it cost us quite sum of bucks I noticed that our trading goods storage was much emptier. Yes, we have more than enough trading goods to buy more or less everything we want from caravans.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

13th of Moonstone, year 103

The caravan left today while the liaison stayed. The cleaning after the battle still continues, though all the dead have been buried. Stronghammer even ordered the construction of small burial chamber for all the outsiders who dies here and who are worth of being buried. The chamber is just north from the stairs, on the same floor as the personal burial chambers for all the guards, personnel and priests.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Both of the wounded prisoners have been released from the hospital, as their wounds weren't too serious. The two guards are different matter, and even though both should survive it's unknown if they are capable of rejoining the military ever again. One has badly wounded leg and the other has some problems with motor nerves. Doctors promised to do everything they can to make them able to fight again, though the situation looks rather bad at the moment.

28th of Moonstone, year 103

Both guards are out from the hospital. While they are able to join the military it begs to question whether they are actually useful in battle. The one with bad leg is unable to stand properly and the other is unable to use left hand. Well, it's not actually my problem, though I heard the discussion between Stronghammer, Rar and Dohon about moving those two guards to work under Dohon. It would mean clean work for them, and not much chances of seeing actual battle.

I have one positive thing to report as well. The storage for ammunition is ready and the expansion of furniture stockpile has begun. It's good to see some progression here.

20th of Obsidian, year 103

The vikings are here! And they have come to slaughter us!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Stronghammer ordered a complete lock down and the bridges were raised to prevent the vikings to enter our fortress. Good thing we spotted the invaders before it was too late, though now we are kinda stuck here until the invaders decide that it's not worth of wasting time to camp outside Evercage.

22nd of Obsidian, year 103

Stupid primals, they don't apparently understand that there is no way to enter our fortress. As they have gathered outside our fortress they are easy targets to our archers. And in the meanwhile rest of us can continue more or less normal live, except that we have no business outside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One of our smiths also finished some kind of secret project today. The result was battle axe, made from tin. Tin axe? No sane dwarf would use such a weak weapon in battle. Perhaps it's supposed to be ornamental weapon? Still I don't see any worth in such thing.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

24th of Obsidian, Year 103

Apparently the vikings weren't as stupid as I first thought. After few of them were killed by traps they seemed to notice that there was no way to get inside and that they were only easy targets to our archers, and so the whole siege force decided to flee. Stronghammer still insists that the lock down should last rest of the year, which is only few days, to make sure no more surprises wait outside.

The report also came that our wealth has reached the one million bucks milestone. Are we really that rich? I can't believe this! But I trust our bookkeeper so it must be correct.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Woodworker Ingish Actboot, cheese maker Urist Chambercatch and potash maker Uzol Wheeltest. All of them were some random prisoners who just happened to rush towards the charging goblins unarmed...

If situation comes to that I might consider that, though it means you will be in mob squad. And mob squad doesn't get any armor, it just won't do to let prisoners roam the fortress armed and armored...  ;D

Oh, and you are doing fine, Legendary +5 miner and adept engraver. Your masonry skill is still in proficient level and very rusty as you have been quite busy with all the expansion mining done lately. You also have lover, one of the guards and axe dwarf. ;)
