I voted for the knight move to move us towards a more intuitive game. It allows more of the forum to participate especially if they've left the game for a while. It's also a well propagated  rumor that chess AI becomes easier to beat on closed, slow, congested boards. While they are greatest at open, edgy and violent lines, such as the king's gambit. So we're already at a bit of a disadvantage.

Don't Nxg5

Trust me.

Instead, h4

H4 would work only on a cell-phone chess AI  :P
G5 would lead to disaster.. no?

Eh, considering it went Qh4 before I doubt it's much smarter.

Black Pawn threatening White Knight is the likely plan of the AI.

After
h4, g4
Knight d4, Queen f6
we lose the tempo, and create a hole on g3, the place where the action is happening.

h4 g4
Knight e5 makes little difference. Sacrificing the knight thereafter is suicidal against ai that doesn't get scared, or make big blunders.

----

g4, fxg4
hxg3, g3
Ke5...

I don't really see short term catastrophe, and you have a shot at retaking the pawn back. It's quite exiting, since I feel like something should go wrong. It seems to avoid the knight sacrifice of a bishop move. Or the obliteration of our king-side by trying to save it.

My heart isn't tough enough for such violence.

I'm voting for g4, but if someone points it out as a blunder, then d4, a sensible move.

Def. not d4 because that can get our king in danger by either Qh4 of Bb4.

And I don't like moving him out of harms way unless we have to.

If they go Bb4, we go c3 and harass his bishop all day. Totally advantageous to white.
If black moves his queen, well, that's much more difficult.

g3 fxg3
Qxg4 ... into queen exchange
and we might make use of our developed knight. It's not too bad.

I'm a conservative bastard, and would likely move H3. A defensive play that protects the knight and keeps the queen out of our flank, but gives the initiative back to black.

There are 4 options that have been used in expert games. In order of popularity:
h4
Bc4
d4
Nc3

I suggest h4. If black then goes for g4, we should play Ne5 (the Kieseritzky Gambit). Our knight reaches a central square, whilst hitting the g4 pawn.

h4 seems like the best move to me (though Ne5 would just be replied to with d6 which costs us a tempo)

h4 seems like the best move to me (though Ne5 would just be replied to with d6 which costs us a tempo)
4.h4 g4 5.Ne5 d6 6.Nxg4
So d6 is met by Nxg4. We get our pawn back and in return black gets some initiative - a popular variation.

I think 4. Nc3 - the Quaade gambit - is worth a try, if we want avoid the well travelled waters.
