Not really- CPU is putting pressure on E4- it is now threatened by a pawn and a knight, and we have no defense. It opens up the bishop on C8, putting additional pressure on our right flank, and it gives an additional avenue for their Queen to enter the fray. We need to get more pieces out there to protect the middle.

I'm no expert by any means, but my gut says Knight-C3 (no I don't know the notation, sorry.) Bring more pieces out, start offsetting the pressure in the middle (if for some reason Black does not respond with pawnxE4, making it a moot point) and start setting up for a Queen's side castle- I get the feeling the King's side is going to get hot rather quickly.

But hey, what do I know.

My chess experience is mediocre at best, but i'd pull out more pieces to join the struggle. Horse from B1 to C3 seems reasonable.

Queen-D3

A: Gets the Queen in a more offensive position.

B: Protects our rook.

C: Gets Queen out of the way for a castle.

Edit: In fact, he only has two places he can move his Knight to without having it die our next turn. Neither of these places threaten any of our pieces, plus the PC loses tempo.

You are forgetting his knight is protected by that pawn there. We could move our knight to C3 to try and force a knight trade, or if we're feeling sneaky we could move our pawn to C4. If the CPU takes the bait we respond with Bishop takes C4, putting pressure on F7 and threatening a fork. If they don't then we can take D5, putting the Knight at E4 at risk, provided Black doesn't do something that forces us to react.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble predicting the CPU's next move.

I think the basic premise of "force black's knight off of e4" is a good one.  c4 is too aggressive though; we need that pawn where he is as a defense against ...Bb4+.  Nc3 is kinda dubious for the same reason; after ...Bb4 a3 Ba5 you can't play b4 without leaving the knight undefended.  But the premise is sound, so...maybe Bd3, intending to castle kingside and put even more pressure on F7?  The advance h-pawn makes that line pretty frightening, but I think it'd be ok if we can keep the pressure on.

Shit, I don't know, Fritz 12 is a lot better at chess than I am.

Edit: or just ignore the whole knight thing and get our gambit pawn back with Nxg4, I guess.

I checked a games database - there is one expert game with this position, Naef versus Haaf, 2006. Naef next played g3 - which seems an offbeat move, somewhat quiet, so I've been puzzling it out.
My theory is this - we play g3 to solidify our position against future tactical threats. The bishop on f4 is currently undefended, the black knight on e4 attacks f2, so the black queen coming to f6 could cause us a problem.
 Naef's game continued with the Bishop coming to g2, followed by king side castling and c4.

 I would add that the d3 square should be kept clear - if our knight gets bumped by f6, I want to keep the retreat option of Nd3 on the table.

I could get behind G3- it gives our right flank some needed stability, and prevents that black pawn from advancing. It actually locks down that side fairly well at this stage, which gives me a lot of peace of mind regarding potential Queen movements.
