d4.

Really.

Why would you do that.

Yeah. Standard moves would be:

1. e4 e5
2. f4 ef
3. Nf3 ...

There's also g3. Black cannot move their Queen to H4, and either way his pawn is gone next round.

Standard routine for the king's gambit is 3. F4-ExF4 4. kF3, with D4 coming later to secure the center and eat that pawn.

3. F4-ExF4
Wha? You mean 2. f4-exf4 right?

And the Villemson gambit is not something what I'd particularly do because it forces our nobles into action way too early.

Now the movement of the knight is needed.

Looks like the knight is the most popular move, and I agree so I'll move later today.

The two most popular follow up moves are Nf3 and Bc4.
- Nf3 prevents Qh4+ outright. A solid, straightforward option.
- Bc4 allows Qh4+, however, we can then play Kf1 and our king is fairly safe. Later, we can play Nf3 to force the Queen to run away - the gain of a tempo. An interesting possibility.

I vote for Bc4.

Started a vote, those two as the options.

Surely you mean Ke1 Because f1 leaves him in the Queen's path. Regardless moving the king this early is a wasted move. Nf3 is quicker because you are not only promoting a piece but you are defending the king. After that moving the Bishop out would be a good idea, depending on Black's Move...

Ke1 would be not moving him. And f1  is not in the Queen's path.
