Winners of Dwarf Fortress
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:58:09 am »

Throughout the ages, a few people have made such lasting impressions on the community through their forts that they could be considered to actually have WON the game.  I wish to make a listing here of such people, so that all may marvel apon their accomplishments.  Feel free to nominate anyone you want by making an entry, if it's good I'll add it in.

The creiteria for making this list are:
 • Something must have been done in-game; sorry, no modding victories.
 • The project must have been picked up by the community, ex. multiple watchers etc.
 • You must have done some actual work; accidently finding something awesome doesn't count unless you do something with it.
 • All three of the above can be circumvented if your project becomes famous enough to be remembered for a long time.
Please post all nominations in the following format, in
brackets (so I can copy/paste easier).
Code: [Select]
<player_name> for <name_of_project_etc>. (<I'll_fill_this> Victory)

So, without any further ado, I give you:

Major:
The people who did Stonesense, the guy from Bronzemurder and Oilfurnace, the people from Bravemule, the guys who made the video tutorials

Minor:
everyone that contributed to the wiki, everyone who spread Dwarf Fortress by word of mouth, everyone who donated.

Nonsense. The only winner of DF is Armok.

The guy who built his fort in a cavern before caverns were implemented.

The guy who's fort lasted hundreds of years and covered the whole surface in megaprojects.

I wish I was better at remembering names.

The first guy is Retro, and I think the second one's a fort named flarechannels or something; I forget.

Really though, that's the point of this thread: so that the names can all be remembered somewhere.

Captain Duck was the maker of all of those DF vids.
There are many other DF vid makers, but Captain Duck has the most complete kind.

Tholtig Cryptbrain, perhaps? Though I don't think simply discovering a good story in legends mode is game-winning material. Still awesome.

Think of it like Sim City, except with rival mayors that seek to destroy your citizens by arming legions of homeless people and sending them to attack you.

My vote would be for Obok Meatgod. The dwarf who managed to horrify the DF community with his acts that shall remain unspeakable, as it should be.
