Finished up the trade with the Aurides, buying up all their metals and various iron/steel goods (which I will have melted so we can get a supply going). Also, they had Prepared Bumblebee Brain of all things, which I bought out of curiousity. Pretty much the same deal for all the other trades throughout the year, so I'm not gonna bother mentioning them..
Reappointed the retired Kumil "Sabrebasins" Astodom to my cabinet of guards, and renamed them to the Diamond Seals (though I quite liked the Blue Golds, before somebody else changed it, apparently). Hired two other guards, male Hammerdwarf/Pump Operator Inod Bomrekzokun and female Knife Wielder/Surgeon (and pretty awesome fighter) Asen Talinnish. Word of warning to the next overseer, these guys are currently armed to the teeth and will absolutely wreck anyone who commits any sort of minor crime. Feel free to give them less deadly alternatives outside of battle if you want.
The tombs/memorials for our greatest of soldiers (Ikidarsha Scorchingchamber, Imush Stirring, Lorbam Peakboat, Datan Armorglacier, and Rakust Hailbodice) are
FINALLY set up. Good grief guys, how hard was it to just designate a few coffins?
Started work on an execution chamber in the prison cellar. By the time it's finished it's going to be pumpable full of water and magma, have brutal menacing iron spike mechanisms, and a hole in the ceiling to drop in prisoners or monsters. It can also double as a torture chamber or garbage disposal.
Presently, only the magma sprinkler system (operated by our very own Kumil Astodom in this lovely photograph) is functional.
Hey Almeida, your son was playing in the magma reservoir when it was pumped full of magma. So he's dead now. Real sorry about that mang.
Since Jargon killed everything, I've been trying to get our stock of ferocious beasties back to a respectable state, so far this is all I got:
Set up a new squad of peasant recruits: The Oily Crested Fists. Perfect for those situations where it's just too risky to send one of our respected soldiers in (like, say, a forgotten beast that breathes fire or deadly dust). Peasants that prove themselves in battle shall ideally be promoted to greener pastures.
Reopened the caverns (you guys are pansies for closing them off with a 200+ population fort) and sent the Oily Crested Fists down there to prove themselves in glorious combat. However, much to my disappointment, all three of the beasts seem to have completely buggered off; Arce Murkydoom the Phantom of Skulls was hiding in the middle of a lake, Nuwetha the Flecked Soils was trapped behind a bunch of trees, and Ovela just wandered out of sight and was literally never seen again (can't say it wasn't a relief, this one had deadly dust). As such, the mining of the copper veins has resumed and the gem/ore industries are back in full swing.
Arce Murkydooms came out of hiding a few months later. It just so happened to wander underneath our mining bridges, so I had the Fists go down and distract it while the marksdwarves of the Invisible Cloisters pelted it with bolts from the safety of the nearby bridge.
And yet it was a marksdwarf of all people who came out of nowhere and, on his first strike, chopped it in half. I don't know what Bomrek Akumvabok was doing with an axe, but those new recruits just got KS'd the
hell out of. Looks like no one's getting promoted this time.
Tobul "Blockadetreaties" (Blockadetreaties indeed) is completely failing in her duties as mayor. She's just standing in the food stockpile, stuffing her face, while claiming to be conducting some kind of meeting. Among many other diplomats, there are two dwarf liaisons waiting to be met with, one of which has been here so long that he's actually been fired and replaced by the other. As such, I have fired Tobul from the position of mayor; being a Proficient Liar can only get you so far in life, you know. Mosus Rakustlektad, the second most qualified, will once again be reassuming the role.
...
And he gets right to meeting with the diplomats. That was quick.
Apparently we've been made into a duchy, even though we clearly don't even have a duke. At this point, I figure Yasten Godpulley will never be replaced.
Speaking of which... I carved out a memorial to Yasten and placed it in his former (and now Saint's) room.
And one for the spider too
R.I.P. Ninlelum (Curse you Jargon, curse you
)
Otungstinthad, "Shocktheaters." Worth 49200. This is totally going in Spishaban's room.
