It's probably due to the fact that the wyvern ran into it's own breath, thus hurting itself and making it easier for you to deal with.

:-\ Frost wyverns certainly aren't supposed to be that weak, and I've never seen them to be that weak that they'd die that easily. I'll run tests to see what happened here soonish.

I'm not entirely sure what happened either, but I don't think that running into it's own breath did anything. In any case, Iki can't play his turn, so it seems that I'll have to put up the files for Yoink's turn again.

Yeah, frost wyverns are immune to the cold of their breath, so that's not it. The wyvern did cause a bit more damage when I loaded up the save, killing a nearby hunter, and after her death caused a military dwarf to freeze to death. Still died relatively easy, so I'll consider some things there. Probably should go for even stronger materials and tissue improvements.

My theory is that it was luck. LOTS of luck. Still awesome, though.

From the Journal of Yasten Nombesmar, Mayor of Crewtowns, 2nd Granite 192

Well, these fools FINALLY saw fit to re-instate me as mayor. It's as though they thought ONE SINGLE INCIDENT of hiding under my desk was enough to make me a less able commander.
Bloody idiots.
Anyway, have to get this place back into shape, it's bloody madness around here. It's nice to have my old chambers back, too. Ah, I love those engravings. Perhaps I should expand it, though...
Anyway, enough for now, there is much to be done! -Yasten

From the Journal of Yasten Nombesmar, Mayor of Crewtowns, 17th Slate 192

Ahhh, it's a good life. I have my old room back, and I just love being in charge!
Well, now. It's all been smooth sailing around here. Everyone's happy, I've just been slowly tightening my iron fist around the fort.
As you do.
A couple moments of excitement came about, with a couple of snatchers and kobolds showing their ugly faces.
The first kobold managed to escape, albeit with a couple of bolts through it, but the second one caught a bolt in the face from Rakust Hailbodice. We all cheered her on, was an amazing shot! The goblins, stupid things, both ended up in cages. I wonder what we should do with them... I think perhaps I'll build some sort of arena, after all, it's not like anything goes wrong around here!...
Oh, back in a sec, someone's calling me...

...Oh. Oh dear. Not again. This could be a problem.

With your epic archers it shouldn't be a problem. If that doesn't work your cage traps will.

From the Journal of Yasten Nombesmar, Mayor of Crewtowns, 18th Felsite 192

Well, the cyclops wasn't good for much, apart from a few laughs as the marksdwarves filled the ugly thing with bolts.
A bunch of elves are here wanting to trade, not much else to report. Did I mention I love my room? Oh, and syrup leaf roasts are to die for!! Well, I better go now, some moron's shouting my name. Don't they realise I NEED this quiet time to plan the very FUTURE of their meaningless little lives?! Damned peasants. It's probably just sprites again, or some moron falling into a well.

Yasten made his way up from his chambers to the main courtyard, heading past the busy trade depot to the wall,  frowning deeply at being disturbed. "Limul's stones! What th' bloody hell do ye want, you clod?!"
"The Enemy Is Upon Us!" Screamed a voice from the walls.
"Wh-wh-what?!" Yasten went pale. His jaw dropped. A little drool came out.
"A vile force of darkness has arrived!" Shouted another dwarf, hefting a crossbow with a fearful grimace.
Looking over the walls, to the south was a large troop of goblins.

It's time for the cage traps!

Just make a long corridor away from the fortress and fill it with cage traps.

Make two then. When one's all used up lock the door and let them in through the other one.

From the Journal of Yasten Nombesmar, Mayor of Crewtowns, 23rd Felsite 192

Hah! These goblins make me laugh.

...From the safety of my office, naturally. Not cowardly. Pragmatic!

Anyway, the soldiers are coming back through the gates now, I think only Monom took any wounds, trying to get all the glory as usual. Despite her massive build, the fat cow manages to run along near twice as fast as any of the others, and those lumps of fat serve as effective armour too, it seems. Hrm. I seem to have put on a little myself, perhaps I'm arrow-proof, also?
Well, back on topic: The goblins only sent one squad, by Limar! What do the fools think we are, bloody gnomes? There were a lot of arrows whizzing about though, so I waited til they were busy turning the newly-arrived wuradi merchants into pincushions, then signalled for the gate to be opened.
The Barricaded Blankets led the charge, and oh it was a wonderful sight! They were truly like a blanket, dropped to swiftly smother the flames of the goblins.
The goblins faltered as they were riddled with our finely-made copper bolts, and then the Bronze Grizzles smashed into them, accompanied by the more enthusiastic of our marksdwarves.

Once again, my superior tactical nous has carried the day! Now what have those lazy b*stards done with my syrup leaf roast?!
