In other news, I've just set up my skirmishers.
A squad of five remarkably useless speardwarfs clad in leather wielding copper and iron spears. They're purpose is to defend the overground, building up skillz and finding ambushes with their skulls. By years end, any survivors are cycled into the main army with proper armor and weapons. I currently have an awesome squad commander, who after wiping out an entire strangler siege by himself, managed to loose an eye to an elven arrow. He now commands the squad responsible for defending the hospital/morgue/crypt, which is one of the more tactically important places in the fortress.
