You put one of the heavy jars in your backpack and peek outside. The group of young men are facing away from the house and laughing at something in the swamp . . . and the old man is nowhere to be seen.

You whip out your trusty cellphone once more. Reception is slightly worse than it was last time you checked, but you're in a different room and not on the second floor. It's still more than enough to get a call through to your father-in-law who might have sobered up enough to give some semi-decent directions. Or his phone might go straight to voice-mail. Fuck. Once again, worst. Hotel. Ever.

I get out of the house - again on the side that let's me stay unseen. I'm looking for a place to hide, so close - and in such angle - that I can observe, when and to what direction the three men are leaving. Then I try to wait unnoticed until they do leave.

EDIT:And I remove the axe from the backpack, so that I can quickly access it.

"Is this the norm for American hotels? I'm kinda used to people manning front desks, rather than studiously ignoring potential customers."

If there's still no sign of a receptionist, I'll look around behind the counter, see if there's anyone back there to talk to.

Reaches under his glasses to rub the bridge of his nose and sighs, tired from driving all day and wanting to get a room to relax.

"Aye, we'll try the other doors next. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone in the lobby found an employee."

Dirk makes himself a cup of Ceylon while he's waiting for the doorman to return, to ask him where the bar is...

Still dealing with your leg, you take the axe out of your backpack and head back outside. You find a hiding spot, but you're not sure how good it is, all things considered. On the other side of the house, you think that the splashing has stopped, but you're not certain.

Some what annoyed by the lack of staff, you edge around the desk to look for someone. It looks about as a reception desk in a hotel should look, you think, although a receptionist would be nice! You don't see any doors marked as staff only, or any doors that look they'd lead to a staff area. That's problematic, isn't it? You sip your tea and wonder what's going on with this place. The two guys who left earlier return.

You rub your nose and head back to the lobby, where it looks like little has changed other than the guy in the suit getting a cup of tea as well. The female traveler is looking behind the desk much as you did a few minutes ago. Stjepan follows behind you. You hear a deep bell sound from somewhere in the hotel.

Stjepan shoved his phone back in his pocket and followed the intellectual type back to the lobby, where the female traveler was looking behind the desk and the suit was drinking tea.

You make yourself a cup of tea and sit in one of the pretty comfortable chairs. It's both a good cuppa and a good chair. This place really isn't that bad. Somewhat annoying, sure, but at least it's interesting. As you sip, the two guys who left earlier return.

I sit down in one of the comfortable chairs and wait. Maybe someone might eventually come along.

It is a very comfortable chair. Still, where the heck is the receptionist guy?

Pretending to read a magazine, Dirk keeps an eye on the other visitors. It's kind of busy for this time of night...

If the receptionist does not return before I finish my tea, give up, sigh loudly and obnoxiously, and go up to my room.

I look for a better hiding spot. If none can be found, I stay on the current one. Then I wait.

You think that you see a better spot and your scramble to the better cover as the youngish men loudly enter the house. It sounds like they're tearing it apart. They don't notice you and you can't make out what they're saying.

Did anyone else notice? Weird fucking place.

You head through the set of doors on the left side of the lobby. Just like the right, it's a short corridor to another set of doors. You pull on them, but they seem to be locked.

Patiently wait for the men to leave.

Bang on the doors. If no-one answers, try to force them open with Rowan's help.

Well, continue sipping and looking, then go up to my room when the tea is done.
