"Have any of you seen any employees here or has it been empty the whole time?"

You fix yourself a cup of superior quality Earl Grey.

You look around for a bell or something, but you don't see anything to summon staff with. However, you do see one of the little paper envelopes that normally holds keycards on the desk. Strange, as you're pretty sure that it wasn't there a minute ago. Reads 289 on the outside, in any case.

You decide to go and charge at the old man. Awfully violent like, isn't it? He immediately swings his shovel at your head, but you get the axe in the way, and your head out of the way. He stumble back, and you take the opportunity to try to get close enough to grab the shovel. However, you stumble in the attempt, and the old man smashes his shovel against your right leg. It's bleeding a fair bit and feels like it's broken.
You get ready to try to continue to fight, past the pain, but both you and the old man here a sudden noise, as if a group of loud men are approaching.
"So youse were just a distractin, huh? I'll get ya yet, ya bastard."
The man runs off in the direction of the noise, onto the side of the house you can't see.

You walk behind the reception desk and look around. It looks about as a reception desk in a hotel should look, you think, although a receptionist would be nice! You don't see any doors marked as staff only, or any doors that look they'd lead to a staff area. The female traveler gets a cup of tea and looks at the desk from the other side.

"Hey! Can you tell me where I am?"
The girl looks unsure of what to do, but takes a few steps in your direction. You decide to walk closer. You guess her age to be six and she's carrying a somewhat worn teddy bear in her hand. She looks pretty scared. Probably more than you are, even. She doesn't seem to know what to say.

I grab a log and stumble to the other side of the house (not the one the old man went.) I tear some clothes from my backpack and make a simple splint using them and the log. I also tie the wounds with torn fiber. Then I follow the old man carefully, peeking around corners, stopping to a position where I can see the new group that just came by.

EDIT: I also keep the axe with me.

You consider grabbing a log to use as a rough walking stick, but don't know if you could manage that and the axe at the same time, so you use the axe to take as much weight off your leg as possible. It's somewhat tough going, but you get to the cover of the far side of the house. With a bit of difficulty, you tear fabric off of your clothing (as well as another stick, very conveniently placed nearby) you manage to rig up a pressure dressing and splint for your leg. It's pretty well done, all things considered. You can walk a little easier now, and while the wound is still bleeding, it's much less critical now. You've got a feeling that spending some more time putting direct pressure on it might be a good idea, though. In any case, you feel well enough to creep around and try to get a view on what's happening on the other side, where you can hear shouting.

Three youngish men have arrived on scene, you guess them at late teens, early twenties. They're roughly dressed, but unarmed. They've grabbed the Old Man and thrown him to the ground, where they're taking turns viciously kicking him. The old guy cries out in pain.

I enter the house unseen. (Through a window if the door is on the side, where the three men are.) Then I start looking around for anything useful - preferably a gun* - crouching when passing windows to not be seen from outside.


*((Grumpy old men living all by themselves seem to quite often own a shotgun or a rifle *wink*wink*))

You carefully and painfully climb through a window and into the house. After a quick look around, you realize that calling a house thus far has been pretty incorrect and you immediately downgrade it to shack. The window was little more than a hole covered up by a battered blanket. Inside, there isn't much, a little bed, a cabinet, and a cast-iron stove. Not a weapon in sight. However, 13 rusty jars on the floor catch your eye. What's the deal with them? The old man is shouting something outside, and his attackers are jeering.

Stjepan shooks head, moving over to the guy at the reception desk.

'There was someone over here earlier, but I haven't seen a single staff member since. But I guess you're not interested in looking for the lounge either?'

If Stjepan receives no answer, he heads through the heavy doors on the right

I stuff the axe into my backpack to ease my working with hands. I check out the jars and the cabinet.

"I'll come with you to look for the lounge, maybe there will be some staff there. Name's Rowan by the way."

Walks back around from reception desk and holds out hand for handshake.

'Stjepan Milic.' Stjepan said, shaking Rowan's hand.

Through the doors on the right, unless Rowan wants to try somewhere else

Follows Stjepan to the doors on the right.

"So, uh, how long have you been here? At the hotel I mean."

You attempt to stow the axe in your backpack. It's in there and all, but it's going to be a bit of a process to pull it out. With that done, attention is turned to the rusty jars on the floor. You sit down and pry one open. It's really quite heavy, you note. You get the top off and a bunch of heavy coins spill out. Gold coins. Holy shit! You don't recognize them as any type of coin that you've seen before, but a few of them certainly have United States type decorations. Outside, the yelling from the old man has gotten louder, and his attackers have started laughing. You think that you hear splashing . . .

You open the heavy wooden door and head down a short corridor. Through another door is a large banquet hall.
It's deserted, but appears to be kept up well enough. Not very much dust anywhere. Five large, long tables take up the space, covered with white table-cloths and having face down glasses (including water, wine, and champagne) at each setting. There's no other visible doors in or out of the room, and a large, crystal chandelier swings in the air, moving the shadows slightly.

I put one jar of coins to my backpack, and peek outside.

'Uhh... not for that long, I guess. I'm trying to find my father-in-law, but this hellhole is deserted. And fucking creepy, trust me.' Stjepan said, 'I don't think this is the place either. Wanna try the other pair of doors?'
