Walk up to the bar a tad nervously, and sit down at least 4 seats away from the Lady. Try to get the bartender's attention and ask him about his scotch collection.

You get out of the and start examining the remnants of the scuffle. Definitely scuffley, you have to say. Lots of ground all tore up from the old man trying to defend himself from kicks. You think that you've got the ability to recognize one set of footsteps from another, and it appears that the old man didn't walk away. However, two of the youngish men's tracks are a lot deeper when leaving the fight ground and go just to the edge of the swamp before getting light again. Did . . . did they just throw the old man in the water and muck then laugh while he got sucked under? Holy shit.


You hear really loud, panicked yelling from the direction that the killers (as far as you can tell) ran off in.

Greyejoy, Digital Hellhound, and Siquo ((Dammit, Siquo posted a turn while I was finishing writing this with a nice auto-action which I'm going to keep in place, as it's roughly in the spirit of his actual action.)):

"But I just spoke with him fifteen minutes ago or so and he was...' Stjepan pauses, 'Well, can you tell me his room number? There's nobody at the lobby desk."

"You said the receptionist never leaves the desk, but there was no one there when we came in. Look, I'm..very knackered and I just want to book a room. Do you know if anyone else is around that can check us in?"

Adam the bartender is somewhat flustered at that, "Really? That's not like him at all. I'm qualified to work the check-in system, so I'll look up the room number and get you checked in with a discount for our mistake," he looks back at the girl still at the bar, "Although I probably shouldn't leave Ms. Hedvig unattended. Errrrr."

Guy in a suit speaks up, "Actually, all I'd like is a small scotch. If you could get me one, I'd be happy to baby-sit for you. What's her story, anyway?"

"She's related to the owner somehow, but she sings in the lounge every few nights. Really nice girl, but she's got a habit of abusing her card privileges. I always make sure that she gets to her room well enough after I lock up. She'll be no trouble, and we'll be back in a minute. Feel free to grab whatever scotch you'd like from behind the bar, it's on me."

Adam looks at the other two, "shall we go, then?"

"Yes, I was planning on getting a room. Problem is, that's just a little bit difficult when the front desk is unmanned."

"Beg your pardon, ma'am. Could I get you a room then, I'll be happy to upgrade you at our expense."

You walk in and take a seat five stools away from the Lady, taking a look at the Scotch collection that you've been told to help yourself to. It's . . . very extensive. What do you want to go for?

I go to take a look where the sound is coming, but I stay out of sight.

You creep to the edge of the dry section of land that the shack is on. It's tough to see, but it appears that the three young men are floundering in the swamp . . . Did they run into quicksand?

Oh wow. Shall I... No, let's not.

Dirk decides gracefully to leave the very expensive bottles unopened, so pours himself a Glenmorangie 18yrs, and a still water, and puts two drops of water in his scotch. He then proceeds to sit down, nods at the lady, and minds his own business.

I am not going to help the murders out, but they wouldn't need to die so painfully... Sigh...
I check the place where the old man was beaten, and check the footprints of the three murderers, and backtrack them.
Those three men must have come from somewhere, if I follow their footprints, I must end up to some kind of village or town... Or at least some sort of shelter.

I smile.

"Thank you. I'm looking only looking to stay one night, I've still got a long journey ahead of me."

[Greyejoy]

"That sounds like a plan. Thanks for helping with the confusion."

Follow Adam over to reception desk.

You prepare your drink and sip. It is quite good. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see that Ms. Hedvig is pretty much out of it, and is just about asleep.

With the screams of the men being sucked down in your ears, you go back the ground where the old man was beaten, but you note that your leg is really starting to hurt, looks like it's still bleeding through the bandage as well. You have some trouble getting any new information, it's almost as if it's getting even darker.

It's clearly getting darker. A half second later you hear the laughing of an old man, louder than it should be, loud as thunder. Holy fuck. Lightning starts up all over the place, and the screams of the young men choke off. You can see the doorway that you came through silhouetted by the electricity . . .

"Thank you. I'm looking only looking to stay one night, I've still got a long journey ahead of me."

"Certainly, ma'am. If I could just get a credit card, I've got a very nice room available, discounted to $75."

You receive a paper slip marked with 285 and containing a keycard. However, you note that the earlier card for room 289 isn't on the desk anymore. Wasn't it there a second ago? Unkempt guy, intellectual guy, and some middle aged guy in dress clothes walk in from the side door.

You all head back to the lobby, where an old man (the receptionist) is handing off a keycard to the Female Traveler. Adam looks over at the other two and raises an eyebrow.

What the hell is going on here?
I go inside the old mans hut to have some cover for thunder.

Look back at Adam with a confused look on his face.

"He..I swear he wasn't there before. Uh, I'm sorry we bothered you."

Shakes head and walks over to reception desk a little bewildered to book a room.

I check which floor my room is on, then head up to it.

You head to the shack and take cover. This clearly isn't a natural lightning storm, and you can hear the old man laughing underneath the thunder.

"Not a big deal. I'll go head back to my bar and finish closing up, then."

You head to the reception desk and book a room for the night. It's a fair bit cheaper than you expected for a hotel that's this posh. The guy at the desk (who is acting like he's been there all night) hands you a key for room 236.

You double check with the Night-man that room 285 is, in fact, on the second floor, then head in that direction through the glass door on the balcony. You don't have any trouble finding the room,  although it seems like the hotel hallway is awfully long.

Walk close to the girl and introduce myself.

[Siquo]

Dirk takes this rare opportunity/excuse to get at least a bit closer to her.

"Come on, miss, I promised Adam to take care of you, and I shall." *down the whiskey in a gulp* *cough* *feels emboldened*
"You're falling of your feet here, miss, I'll escort you to your room. What number is it? My name is Dirk, by the way. Dirk van den Bosch."

(Yeah, that scotch really hit the spot. Smooth going, Dirk, who are you, James Bond? Relax, man!)

Dirk helps the lady up from her chair and gently guides her towards the stairs or preferably elevators.
