Evenin’ all. This is a thread in which I offer
8 16 free licenses for the in-development computer game ‘Starfarer’.
Thanks to Alex at Fractal Softworks for adding two EIGHT more copies to the pot! Please read the rest of this post for further info.
This is mainly to try and give a bit more coverage to the game, as the developer has recently jacked in his day job to concentrate on this project full time, so he deserves a bit of support. Also the BAY12 community has basically given me all I ever needed in terms of up to date interesting game information, so this is a natural place for me to return some of the love.
There’s a healthy discussion thread already on the forums, so any specific game discussion should really go there:
Bay 12 Starfarer ThreadGAME SYNOPSISFor those of you interested in:
a) Space Travel
b) Large Guns
c) High quality independently developed games
d) …
e) Profit
You could already be playing the Alpha build of Fractal Softworks ‘Starfarer’, in which you can currently fly about and command a small (or large) fleet of big spaceships with large guns in a 2D top-down atmosphere of civil and social local decline.
The alpha is at around 0.33 (which theoretically puts it at 33% complete?) but it is already a blast to play, and modding support is already alive and kicking.
In the
future development of the game you will get to do all sorts of things, with the ultimate aim being to create a sandbox set against a politically dynamic sector of space.
BAY12 STARFARER GIVEAWAY EXTRAVAGANZA COMPETITION DETAILSBecause it’s coming up to the middle of the Northern Hemisphere summer, it felt appropriate to channel the spirit of Christmas, in which spoilt Christian children get things that they don’t deserve for free.
And you, venerable Bay12ers, get to play the role of the spoilt Christian child.
But I am attempting somewhat to slow down the cycle that creates an ever more craven generation of freeloaders by asking you to do something for your gift.
*muted gasp*
To enter with a chance to win one of 5 available licenses,
please submit an original Haiku in this thread, on the theme of ‘Space Travel’.
Haiku (in English)- from WikipediaThe winner from the entrants will be decided by random.org List Randomization of the successful entries (top 5 generated by the list will be winners), and the cut-off date will be
Tuesday 14th June, 16:00 Bay12 forum time.
Yes, quality of the Haiku is not the main point, but hopefully some of you will amaze us with your creativity. Also there is no real necessity to give a Haiku, but anything that shows an equivalent level of creativity set around the theme of space travel will be accepted as a valid entry. The main point is to try and encourage entrants to actually want to play this game, and therefore invest slightly more than a simple response to the thread. Also I’ll have to take the final view on what constitutes a valid entry.
I’ll post the winners on this thread, and we can deal in PMs on this forum to get your activation code details to you.
---
Please note that due to the current purchasing method, I need to register these accounts from my own credit card details, as such all I can give you is the correct activation code to activate your copy (which you can download from the Fractal Softworks site). As long as you keep this code safe, you can use it to re-activate any future versions of the alpha as it develops, but official support will be kind of limited if you do lose your code.
Having said that, you’ll have my details so I can try my best to sort anything out for you if you do have problems in the future. Hope it's not too much of an issue.

Thanks to Majestic7 & Seabee for the idea, and hemmingjay for his inspiring generosity elsewhere.
Have fun!
And let me know if you have any questions or anything, I’m not around all that much this weekend, but should be able to pick any thing up today or Monday.
