I can't be arsed to write Neurotypical repeatedly and from what talks on a forum I frequented in the past normie seemed an appropriate, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, slang term. If it's no longer or was never considered such I apologise and will cease using it ^^

I don't really like this bifurcation of the population that some internet asperger's people like to use, as if everybody who isn't on the autism spectrum is "typical" or otherwise the same.

Actually I think it's surprisingly clever snark, or at least it started as that...or there are those who've come to identify it as that. Basically depending on the definition you are using of mental health, potentially nobody could be considered mentally healthy. Nobody is a "normie" or "neurotypical" and we all have our minor disorders or eccentricities.

Right, so we're basically talking about a couple different things here. Obviously, there's a pretty big difference between being unable to read emotional cues well (autism spectrum) and being unable to feel for other people at all (sociopathy/antisocial personality disorder).

Exactly what I've been saying. I've also been saying that those two things have some relation as how can you feel for another if you can't see the emotion in the first place, which is where the false perception people with Asperger's have little empathy comes from. Cognitive 'empathy', the ability to read social and behavioural cues is effectively a separate concept to 'true' empathy, which I dubbed affective empathy or compassionate empathy.

My post was destroyed by Toady, aww.  I don't have any way to repost it and I thought the post was better than what I usually say so that's a loss unfortunately.  That's what I get for posting without even reading any pages beforehand to feel the environment.  ...Or maybe Toady had to delete that information to protect the safety of the world.

This included Siquo getting angry
Not at all, but I did notice agitation and losing both my cool and ability to explain myself coherently (well, as far as I had that ability in the first place). Continued discussion in that state would be detrimental to the good atmosphere of the fora. I am not at all sad that the entire thing got deleted.

Well, apparently I've got selective Aspergers or something. Since I failed to recognize sarcasm in my CompTIA A+ cert instructor's voice I have now opened a shitstorm for fear of being under investigation. Fan-fucking-tastic. When he was telling me I should have gotten the joke instead of gone to contact the director of education I suddenly became very sympathetic to this condition. However, you really shouldn't joke around about someone's last best chance at a career.

Are you certain that it truly was a joke? He may well have decided that it was a joke only after you had contacted the director of education.

Oh, yeah... that happens too, doesn't it?

*sigh*

That's pretty sad, Nikov.  I hope things work out for you.

I'm all for harsh therapy. Yes, I have very good reasons for this, namely that I am a somewhat functional member of society, whereas my brother is ready to be taken in and locked away for the betterment of mankind.

So the harsh way can either fuck them up or get them to toughen up, and the soft way will fuck them up for sure. Of course, it's easy to say "toughen up" when it's not your own child. I'll get back to you on that once I've got more experience in that area.

You've gotta weigh all that against the fact that society can go fuck themselves...
@Bohandas That's even better. However, even asparagus need lovin'.

That's what the internet is for.

And as usual for any conflict, my mind is racing about the reasoning and logic and morality and ethics about the matter. I keep telling myself that since I did nothing wrong then I have nothing to worry about. Yet at the same time, if he's vengeful, then next semester is going to be hell. If I think he's targeting me I can get him fired, yet I certainly don't want him telling everyone in the IT field for this 30,000 person city that I'm a backstabber, even though I was only responding rationaly to a threat to my education and career.

People should not joke about serious fucking business and then get pissy when you take them at their word.

If he does that then you sue him for slander...

Documentation Nikov!
Don't ever do anything without the documentation to support it, or shit will go fanward sooner or later. Even if you are asked to change the colour of a button from yellow to orange, make sure your docs reflect that. Otherwise stuff like that happens, and people like to blame the IT guys. If your documentation says 'spend two months drinking coffee and eating donuts' then it doesn't matter if it was a joke, that's what you get paid to do!

Good lesson. Entirely unapplicable to this situation, but good lesson. I'll document fucking everything.

Another is good lesson is that, when someone says something like that, you say "Are you serious?"

If he responds with more sarcasm, you can, at the very least, get a second chance to try to detect it.

Er, this sounds silly, but it's pretty ass-saving.
