I'm all for harsh therapy. Yes, I have very good reasons for this, namely that I am a somewhat functional member of society, whereas my brother is ready to be taken in and locked away for the betterment of mankind.

So the harsh way can either fuck them up or get them to toughen up, and the soft way will fuck them up for sure. Of course, it's easy to say "toughen up" when it's not your own child. I'll get back to you on that once I've got more experience in that area.

Well I would support some tough love before medication, that is for sure. Although that is an issue I know I am bias in, as I have a phobia of medical drugs, especially anything to do with behaviour modification, so my word isn't to be trusted here.

By definition, it isn't something you once had and get better from such as ADD, but rather something you have, deal with, and accept. Or you end up like me and deny you ever had it in the first place, either way.

You've gotta weigh all that against the fact that society can go fuck themselves...

But how bad is being "punished"? The worst that can happen is physical or verbal abuse.

False.  My ex-boyfriend's classmates tried, seriously, to drown him.  The situation is not that simple.

Keyword is tried.
And yes, it's really bad etc, but I'm a. still unimpressed and b. if he was fat instead of an asparagus, they might've done the same. Kids are cruel not only to the socially inept, and asparagus do not have a monopoly on being bullied. Sometimes that results in death, but those occasions are very rare.

Shielding yourself from society is just a false sense of security; there will come a time when you have to face the big bad world.

Keyword is tried.
...Actually, no, I don't think it is.  Attempted murder is gonna have a lasting impact, not to mention it could easily have been actual murder.

To be fair, the thread got so derailed I was hoping for a lock or wipe.

Back on topics addressed before. Gene therapy is still in the experimental phases for highly genetic diseases such as CF, we're still a long ways off from pinpointing mental disorders in DNA, even though many of them have a highly genetic component.

If I hear so much as a peep about genocide or old-school eugenics advocating population cleansing I'm going to request a lock
