Awww... she's cute.  :) (<- this is a smiley face. It indicates joy/being amused/happiness. Which exactly is of course context-dependent. In this context it is "being amused", as I was amused by the previously posted comic)

But in the real world, you can get away with a LOT of dickery before you get locked up. Just look around you.

True, but I think the point is that although you might not get sent to jail, chances are people with aspergers are going to get punished for unacceptable social behaviour, when they really do not understand what they are doing wrong, while growing up at least.

And minus is a girl...

Corrected.

But how bad is being "punished"? The worst that can happen is physical or verbal abuse. Toughen up and try again. Yes, you'll make enemies. No, that won't matter in the long run.

Either you never went to primary school, or mine was very different to yours, and I got off easy. I have seen teacher almost have kids in tears and not hold off, without the guy even knowing for sure why he was being punished and nobody else was. Although the main difference was that I didn't want to socialise, while others did, but didn't know how.
The schooling system, at least where I grew up, wasn't able to deal with kids with more noticeable symptoms of aspergers. Can't really blame the teachers for not knowing how to handle something they were never trained for, but some people were really ground down into the dirt for it.

It builds character :P (and yes, been there, I was just separated from the rest of the class because there was nothing to teach me anyway. That helped a bit) (come to think of it I have no idea why I even went to primary school at all, as I already knew everything better and had no restraint in showing off that I did, I guess it was just "daycare")

Screw that! Character building is best done by grinding on giant rats! If there is one thing that has been shown to be degrading to the human soul, if is anything remotely character building.

That is too true. However, in the civilised part of the world (for you that's "if you need to cross water to get there, it's probably civilised"), Giant rats are already extinct due to extensive character building. That's why the Brits sent all those people to down under; to build character.

So what you're saying is that all contemporary non-Australians are spineless, wishy-washy infants?

Not at all, my dear fellow! Merely that we've grown beyond grinding Giant Rats and Dire Wolves.

I approve of you communicating in webcomics, Max. You've never been funnier.
Ok, that sounded weird, but you know what I mean. Right?

Inb4: GIVE IT A REST already, yes, I said something socially awkward in an Aspergers thread, big surprise.

I realy can't take the comody credit, it was the slackers that did the hard work. GO CHECK THEM OUT! But anyway, back to the plot topic.

I think the character building mentality isn't exactly healthy for all involved, but what alternative do we have? No, that was not rhetorical. Kids have to grow up, and if you let them have their way then that isn't going to happen. So how should anybody, from any perspective handle a kid with aspergers who has yet to be emotionally crippled until they no longer desire human contact catch up on the social skills front?
