There is sort of another factor Reelya

There is what I call the Parody Cake. It is when something parodies/satires something in such a way that they get all the benefits of what they parody without actually being called out on it because it is a parody.

Like, for example, those comedies that make fun of steriotypes by using steriotypes.

Poe's Law definitely kicks in here, and you always get examples where there will be debate about whether it's a parody or not...

Well Parody Cake doesn't nessisarily disqualify it from being a Parody.

It is just having your parody while getting the same benefit from what you are parodying.

The cartoons you watch are worse than the cartoons I watch.
The comics I read are superior to the comics you read.

Batman's way cooler than Superman.

When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I'm a fan of the term "Parody Cake". I also recognise it when it happens (usually).

:D

These days, it's kind of rare to find a parody without it enjoying the Parody Cake. Examples of PC would be the aforementioned fanservice, Deathklok (which takes the piss out of metal by making ridiculous, but musically decent, metal) and all those online RPG comics who make fun of the conventional fantasy tropes... before eventually spiralling into one (examples are looking for group and order of the stick.)
