Never was a fan.... of any of it to be honest. There never seemed to be much variation and originality in anime to me. The characters all look pretty much the same, their expressions are usually too cheezy/too serious/too cutesy for me. There's just something shallow about it. I guess I just don't get it. I did try to read this one anime about vikings (which is pretty interesting to me to begin with), but then one guy looked like he was from Naruto or something and I was completely turned off...

Sorry, but I just had to get this off my chest. I realize a lot of you out there are kinda fanboyish about this stuff, so I'd understand if this thread was completely ignored... just let it sink to the bottom.

Eh, you're not alone. I never got anime or mangas either, and a lot of my friends are really into them. One key aspect of my indifference to them is that in real life you can tell two people apart without looking at their outlandish hairstyle.

... Actually, I find that you can tell them apart if you learn to pay attention to the right things.

Of course, that requires you watch anime.

Nothing wrong with not liking it, as much as there's nothing wrong with not liking other media.

Just saying, just because you can't tell them apart, doesn't mean they're indistinguishable.

(most)Anime really just bores me. Especially the ones with REALLY poor animating. You know, still scene with mouth randomly moving to represent talking, that kind of bad.

Oh yeah, bad animation happens, and it's pretty bad in some cases.

But sometimes, nothing happening is the point.

Not all the time, though.

Sometimes it's just sloth.

Oddly, I have a hard time telling people apart in real life and live-action television. It makes watching movies slightly harder.

The issue that a lot of people seem to forget is that anime isn't anything special.
It's no different than western animation, aside from being made for a somewhat different culture and using a different art style.
Both are essentially the same entertainment industry, both are full of shit (poor animation, poor writing, made simply for money, et cetera), and both have some gems that stand out from the rest.

I don't like anime.  I like some stories which happen to be told through the medium of manga and anime.

Axing an entire medium seems a bit much if you haven't looked around.  I recommend the manga of Saikano.

Anime is pretty cool.  Although I would like to expand that category to literature itself since there is so much amazing material out there.

Well, I prefer them to movies and TV series nowadays.

There are always some interesting and unusual stories.
The romance part is more developed and satisfying.
They offer a nice contrast to the bleak reality.

I like it, but I'll admit there is an awful lot of bad anime out there along with some of the good.

But I suppose that is subjective because I probably like a lot of anime others consider bad.

Well, yeah, pretty much this.  I mostly meant that I don't go and read everything with "animoo" stamped on the side, the way I used to.

I basically never watch anime, for various reasons. I'm not a big fan in general. I just read manga sometimes, because a series does this or that which makes it interesting to me.

I have issues with... I don't even know how to describe the phenomenon. When I picked up anime I watched Evangelion, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, etc. But I watched them subtitled. I'd say none of those has the cookie-cutter character looks, but I'll get there in a minute.

Then I heard.. I forget which... but one of those as a dubbed version. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard. If that was all I'd hard to start with, I couldn't watch it either.

It seems like recently though, pretty much everything anime I've seen depicted anywhere is: This. Can't be un-seen.

Gotta admit, I'm curious what series the OP is referring to, though.

Edit: Tried to clarify without sounding too fanboyish.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I wasn't referring to any in particular, just the whole thing in general.

edit: Oh the viking thing? I have no idea, I saw it a little while back.
