Troglodyte marriage?!
« on: June 09, 2011, 11:06:33 am »

"The Troglodyte Muthkuutok and the Troglodyte Odlugonu have married. Congradulations!  They have decided to forego any formal celebrations."

I have NEVER seen this before, dwarves marry, sure, and my tame trogs breed in vast numbers, and the adults fight in the gladiator pits.  Incidentally (or perhaps relevantly) the lucky couple married seconds after getting named for participating in the umpteenth goblin execution.

Any thoughts? Does this happen? Trogs are basically animals, I thought...are they becoming civilized..err dwarven?

Trogs are intelligent, and thus, can even be leaders of your civ (I think)

What modding have you done?  You have tame troglodytes, so you must have done something.

Trogs are a unique animal, in that they are more akin to tigermen than common animals - that is, they are almost intelligent enough to form their own civ.  If you've tamed them, this obviously makes some civilization additions to their creature actions, and allows for named, intelligent creatures to marry.

A trog will never be a worldgen civ ruler because they lack [CAN_SPEAK] and thus  they are default hostile to all civs.

Two cave people marrying isn't as weird as making them milkable for cave milk.

This has happened before with werewolves, I think. Someone posted that two of their massive werewolf stockpile got married. Apparently, another werewolf in that same fortress gave birth to itself as well. I wish I could find the thread.

I added the [PET] tag to them, i wanted a little colony. Interesting that them getting named produced such a result, I should keep training arena champions and see if others get married too.  As far as mayoring goes--they all have pretty good social skills, but only train them near each other...so I don't know, if they displace my current mayor I might just make all of them into pie (she is 20, born and raised in the fort, likes silver and crutches and when I made her sheriff, grabbed a masterwork silver hammer and DIDN'T kill anyone, not even the chief medical dwarf, who I figured was doomed due to murphy's law.

Non-dwarves will never make a mandate if they become mayor.  Tigermen mayor are a big favorite, and I modded tamable minotaurs so I had a badass minotaur mayor.  He swung around an iron great axe and never told anyone to do anything!

Any reproductive creatures that are not siege participants can reproduce in captivity. Asexual creatures cannot (such as fire imps, so no fire proof leather farms), and egg layers don't claim nest boxes unless they're tamed, so they won't breed either.

Girlinhat's comment is sort of obsolete, by the way, in that gremlin mayors at least can make demands (in vanilla), but since you can't see their thoughts you won't know what they are.
