I'm doing a LP over at the Freakin' Awesome Network forums and got a small but kickass migrant wave.






How good is this dwarf? He made a masterpiece simple meal with some seeds and some tallow. That's how goddamn good of a cook he is.




Eh, they can't all be winners.


Also, what does Military Tactics do? Is it actually useful?

what's actually wrong with it? high master cook is just awesome, woodcutter brings his own axe which is very usefull in early game, doctor is good and the fourth, well yeah he's useless unless you work wax.
It's not clear what does military tactics do, but it's safe to assume its effect is negligible

That's what is wrong with it. Without a beekeeper and/or wax, he's pretty much a warm body to just haul or get killed by goblins.

Yeah some useful early game dwarves there.  My personal favorites are the ones with an entire branch of labour.  The ones with all farming/crafts at competant or whatever.

I even once got a metalworker with the entire tree at proficient, h'es a year or two away from his last legendary now

you don't just go and mince those quarry bush leaves as easily as an unsuspecting cucumber!
No, you have to sneak carefully and silently and never let your blade cast a glare before you strike!

He's a ninja cook.  Your haulers bring food into the apparently-empty kitchen, turn away for a moment to pick up some refuse and when they turn back, there is a masterwork roast sitting on the table and the kitchen still looks empty.

I'd argue that 4th dwarf is the 2nd best dwarf you got in that wave because of Judge of Intent - he should be your broker. If you do fishing at all, then ok the 1st dwarf is darn good too but only for that. The woodcutter's sole value was in bringing an axe. The ninja cook is truly awesome.

Military Tactics is a worldgen-only skill and even there it isn't actually used yet. It's a long-term footnote to make battles more interesting than two sides lining up for a long series of 1v1 duels.

Best migrants... from my forts, I've had a couple high master armorsmiths arrive and there was that one expert dodger/observer who showed up.
