Shaper as in Geneforge. This will likely end up not very accurate to the lengths of apprenticeships and so on, but it'll be a good idea nonetheless, I hope.
Three choices of class, even though to outsiders you will all be called 'Shaper':
Guardian: "I AM THE ONE WHO MAKES THE ENEMY FALL DOWN!" Not very smart. Strong. Heavy Armor is a possibility. Can't shape anything useful *except for magic creations* Least likely to die via magical accident/experiment fail. Very large need for healing pods (or even more armor). Most likely to not be picked.
Agent: "Need something done in the night?" Sneaky. Best spellcaster. Not very good at shaping, but can still make a weak pet or two if they want. Fast. You must construct additional pylons. gain much energy.
Shaper: "Do you not see the precision I need for this? Shut up!" Obviously, best at Shaping. Not very strong or durable. Want a large guard force of your own creations? Make it. Most likely to die from magical accident/experiment fail, since that pretty much what they usually do if they aren't fighting, or doing something else. Very large need for Essence.

Strength: Affects Physical damage and other things requiring strongthings. Max 100, but don't expect a 100 Str fyora to be able to out-punch a Battle Alpha (a 100 Str Battle Alpha, on the otherhand, would be able to put a sizable dent in a mountain). 2 Es per point up to 10, then 4 Es per point after. Every 20 levels adds +1 bonus damage just because.
Dexterity: Ranged equivalent of Str. Helps with aiming and range, but it has to be within sight range. (either yours or the creations) Same Essence use per point and maximum as Strength. Also same silly bonus.
Intelligence: affects resistence to vlish and/or gazers (or the upgrades of either). also whether you can control it or not. control requires 2 Essence in this, past that is just resistance boost. Max 10. (10 point in int will cause major control problems if you lack sufficient Leadership, but it'll be +5 vs vlish/gazers/upgrades, so ...)
Endurance: is Endurance. 4 Essence per point, 100 max. every point adds 2 health. Point 100 adds 4 instead of 2.
Story:
The Shapers are the most powerful of the magical sects. Shapers have the ability to create and alter life, to create beasts to do various tasks such as domestic work, labor, and combat. Using Essence, shapers can mold their creations into being. This process can be simple and quick, or long and exhausting for more complex creations. They guard their secrets
extremely closely, and to learn their techniques without permission is akin to asking for a quick and assured death, whether by Guardian blade or Agent spell.
The Shapers also govern the lands under their control. Their territory is headed by the Shaper Council, a group of nine elite Shapers, who meet to discuss issues to keep peace and prosperity.
It has been a very long journey, but you are finally an apprentice Shaper, with only the difficulty of learning (and surviving) the training to come. Some will succeed greatly. Others will die horribly. The chances are not in your favor for the former option, but it is not impossible. Go forth and succeed or die trying, because you aren't going to get much (if any) help from your proctors and fellow apprentices anyway.
