You'll run behind the outcropping, and the Eaters of Souls will follow you - only to have the tables turned as you quickly loop around, assaulting them from behind and picking them off one by one! The plan is foolproof!
You discover an additional [3] 3 devourers behind the outcropping. They [6][5][5] attempt to eat your face, and despite your attempt to dodge [2], they manage an admirable job at it. One in particular manages to latch himself onto the back of your neck.

I take my time to carefully aim and fire an arrow at one of the soul eaters while yelling at my wayward soon-to-be companions to run this way.

Ahra even attempts to rush past you, screaming and waving his sword, but you catch him by the back of the shirt and pull him back inside before he lands himself in a pit of brambles or something.
Telling him to wait, you pull out your bow, and take careful aim with a single arrow. When you are content you've got a shot lined up, you let fly... The arrow hits true, sinking deep into the eye of your target, dealing 24 damage and sending the creature reeling.

Unfortunately, most of your shurikens go wide, only one hitting the creature attacking you. Still, they make short work of the brambles, cutting and scattering and clearing the area beneath your feet, revealing quite clearly the Devourer that has latched onto your ankle. The creature gives another yank [2] but you hold strong [5] and kick the beast in the snout. Stunned, he lets go of your ankle, and you scramble up to the solid ground nearby tree.

You rush out to charge them with your sword, but Nirur pulls you back, saying you'll be far more effective inside the fortifications.
