I found myself wanting simple, abstract, very modular, and setting-agnostic 3D terrain. Something that can be built quickly, stored easily, and would look and feel cool on the tabletop.

I've known about Dwarven Forge for a long time and thought it was great, but it's very expensive and sort of specialized. Heroscape (now out of print) is also neat, but not really the right size to use for typical RPGs and wargames, which are measured in inches, and many players do not like hexes.

But I thought, what if you just had cubes that linked together horizontally and stacked vertically? Have a handful of "natural" colors that you could intepret as a wide variety of materials. Make them one inch so they work with a lot of gaming systems. Plastic so they're durable, lightweight, and cheap.

...

I made some concept renders, showed them around, and got such positive responses everywhere I went that I gained a lot of faith in this idea, that there are people that would love to own a set, so now I'm trying to make them a reality.

Simple, cheap, versatile, cool... this has potential alright. I'd throw a few bucks his way if I could.

Oh those look nice...

I imagine I could make good use of something like this for some of my own game concepts.

It looks like they do.

This looks neat, and I hope it gets off the ground.

Eh. It seems like a okay idea, but you would pretty much have to rebuild each room as you went though them, which would take wayyy to long. Or you would have to buy a whole bunch, which would take wayyyy to much cash. And forget about big rooms.

Also, obviously, it would only be for real real basic stuff, which for my money I would rather have a dry erase sheet and a couple of markers.

It's 50 bucks for 250, that'd be more than enough for a series of rooms or a few big rooms.

Also note that the green "blocks" in the picture don't appear to be blocks at all, but stax of 6-ish? flat tiles. Looking at the picture, there are 21 green blocks.

21 * 6 = 126 tiles, plus 104 blocks. That's quite a bit.

On further inspection, the clear (ice?) blocks might be the same way?

Eh. You are sorta right, but it still seems like a lot of work next to a dry erase sheet. Although the height thing might come in handy.

As someone that used to use a cheap dollar set of jenga blocks as terrain, this is more than practical. It's also pretty fun to build up your own 3D terrain. Plus it makes for more fun with splosions!

The guy's looking to get 9000 bucks in donations though, which I don't think that he'll get. Still, in my normal spirit of patron of the arts type, I'll go put in a nice amount of cash. $26 of course.

If he wanted to make these things more practical, then there would be blocks of differing sizes. Like has already been suggested, tall stacks of 6 or so would be a good place to start, but also, a large, flat block that you could use for the base of the level, or the ground floor if you prefer. That way you don't need to worry about linking together a ton of blocks for an otherwise flat room.
