Let's Play X-COM 2: Terror from the Deep!
« on: June 07, 2011, 05:35:28 am »

Although it should really be known as Terror from the Developer.

X-COM 2:TFTD was a rushed sequel made by Microprose to capitalize on the success of X-COM 1. It uses the same engine as UFO Defense/Enemy Unknown, just with different graphics. In fact, the game looks more like a fan-made reskin of X-COM 1 than a standalone game.

The difference, of course, lies in the difficulty. In the original X-COM, there was a bug that caused all saves to be reverted to the easiest difficulty after the first mission. Thus, many people thought they had beaten it on Superhuman, and complained that the game was too easy. Microprose opted to take the easy way out and made TFTD's beginner level harder than UFO's superhuman level.

Anyway, this LP will be a complete meatgrinder. Don't expect your guys to last more than a few missions. You can apply for a guy like this:

Name: Jon
Age/Gender/Race/whatever:
Bio: (optional, but I'll write your character based on this)
Preferred Weapons: (don't include stupid things like stun rods thermal tazers being only weapon)

Doomed Souls:

Name: Codec
Age: 36 (Actually a few millennia old. Just doesn't look it.)
Gender: Androgynous
Race: Sumerian
Bio: Level headed man, of around 5' 11", who discovered one of the many paths to immortality, his path leading to him being preserved in his body at the age he discovered the secret. He can recover from any would that doesn't behead him, given enough time. His skin is a deep tan, reflecting his Middle Eastern origins. The greatest factor that has kept his head intact since he was made immortal is his inane, verging on asinine, cautiousness. He never is the first into a building, and he'll be damned if he won't make sure he can fire back at someone shooting him.
Preferred Weapons: Something Phosphor.

NOTE: I want the best of the first batch all around, and I want you to not take anything risky with him. He can benchwarm the  sub on terror missions, unless you're sure he'll survive.

Name: Simmura
Gender: Either
Preferred weapons: Anything explosive. Biggest boom is best boom.
Bio: Probably insane. Perfectly happy to rush into somewhere unknown. When cloned, add another m to the name. Don't ask about the two he/she already has.

Would've finished mine...

Name: Ghost
Gender: Either, female preferred.
Preferred Weapons: Gas Cannon AP, then Sonic Cannon. Thermal Tazers when needed. Thermic Lance in left hand on Ship Terror Missions, Artifact Sites, and other close quarter missions.
Bio: A direct descendant of Phantom that suffered a genetic mutation in which caused their left hand and left leg to be that of a Chryssalid. Joined X-Com despite Phantom's wishes. A surprisingly good sniper despite the hand, just like Phantom, with the ability to carry a little more weight.

Name: Julius "Rock" Carver
Age: 67
Gender: Male
Bio: A veteran from the first alien war, who volunteered to once again combat the alien threat.
Preferred weapons: His age makes him a bit too frail to go on the battlefield in person, instead he's manning the remote controls of one of them newfangled Submersible Weapons Systems.

So I guess you want to be the hero, ja? This is X-COM, it's either Take Risks and Die or Don't Take Risks And Everyone Dies.

He'll uh... protect the ship! Yeah! Those things are waaaaay more expensive than soldiers. :P

Actually, yeah, I guess. But I still don't want him being the one who kicks down the USO doors.

Don't worry, that job will go to Simmura or me.

Name: Sheb the First.
Age:57
Race:Mutant
Sex:Who knows?
Bio: Sheb's family were White Russians, noblemen that fled to Japan and settled in the quiet town of Fukushima. After the "incident" he suffered a weird mutation, giving him an extremely short breeding cycle. He's already a great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. When he die, just let one of his descendant take his place (and name him Sheb the Second/Thrid, usw usw.
Weapons: Nade. Lot's of them. And tazers. He really like to throw stuff. (Give him the character with the higher Throw skill.

Name: John Stalvern
Age/Gender/Race/whatever: Male Human
Bio: His father told him that if he went into the deep sea, he would be "kill by demons." He didn't listen, even though this is highly likely to happen in TFTD. So here he is, signing up for X-COM.
Preferred Weapons: Anything whose purpose is to blow open walls and floors
