I always like it when things like this happen:

The Goblin Maceman attacks The Axedwarf but He jumps away!
The Axedwarf hacks The Goblin Maceman in the left lower arm with his =steel battle axe= and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Axedwarf stands up.
The Axedwarf hacks The Goblin Maceman in the left hand with his =steel battle axe= and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Axedwarf hacks The Goblin Maceman in the left upper arm with his =steel battle axe= and the severed part sails off in an arc!

So, to recap, Axedwarf Led, having landed on his ass, chops off the goblin's arm below the elbow, vaults back to his feet, chops the goblin's severed lower arm in half as it twirls in the air, then chops another piece off the goblin's same arm, this time above the elbow. I imagine this goblin just standing there, thinking "Was that really necessary?" as the other dwarf comes up behind him to smash his head in with a *silver war hammer*.

Hah, what a showboater. But hey, what better way to establish your dominance over the foe than that? :P

Also, i recall when my not-very-skilled (read: proficient) axedorf utterly destroyed a giant in a face-to-toe fight. First thing the dorf does is to chop up the giants foot, causing it to fall. He then knocked it out cold with a strike to the head, then spent the next several pages scalping the giant, flooding the room with blood. The giant died not of brain trauma, but of profuse bleeding from its severely mangled head. In the end, the dorf was totally unharmed, if a bit soaked in blood, so i unsealed the room they were fighting in.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

Just got attacked by a Bronze Colossus.

It waltzed over all my weapon traps taking negligible damage, then spent several minutes chasing a peahen around my courtyard (and then demolishing some buildings after it had killed it).

I activated all my militia and stationed them at the far end of the entrance corridor behind the second set of traps.  And waited, while the colossus stood around doing nothing for several minutes.

Eventually, one of my recruits decided to run outside to pick up some equipment from next to the colossus, who woke from whatever metalic daydream it was having, killed him, and then charged into my fortress.

It got past my traps with minor injuries, whereapon my militia zerg-rushed it.

Early in the fight, the colossus managed to KO my longsword-wielding cook, but after that was barely able to even hit anyone, let alone wound them.  Meanwhile, my dwarves layed into it with enthusiasm, with my two marksdorfs causing several fractures by shooting at it; one of my axedorfs attempting to bite it in the head several times, and everyone else just whaling on it until they had broken off both its arms and one of it's feet.

And then continuing to hack, bash, kick, punch, and bite it for several minutes as it lay on the floor, until one of my hammerdwarves hit it in the lower body so hard that it flew off in an arc.

(Regretably, my longsword/cook died shortly after of suffocation before anyone could treat him).

The statue that was left behind was of two leopards, which makes for quite a mind-screw when trying to envisage exactly what the colossus looked like.

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

I'm quite proud of one of my doctors that killed an annoying Rhesus Macaque in the my latest fortress.

The event is quite well summed up with this picture...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I need to remember to put a statue in this guy's room, preferably of a Rhesus Macaque.

Reminds me of an early fort, before I understood how food stockpiles worked (lolstarved).  My farmer managed to bite a monkey in the head and kill it.  It's because of things like that, that I stuck with DF.  Insane controls be damned, my farmer just bit through a monkey skull!  This game is worth playing!

This:

Code: [Select]
The Axedwarf bites The Dragon in the head, denting the scale and bruising the fat!
The Axedwarf latches on firmly!
The Dragon breaks the grip of The Axedwarf's upper front tooth on The Dragon's head.

I didn't get to see the combat report itself, but that one dwarf getting his left cheek and then right eyelid torn out by goblins seems to be a fairly impressive moment in the sites' history; judging from all the statues and engravings. I can't really imagine that being the sort of thing you'd want to remember.

It seems that hoofed animals are really hardcore in this game. A piglet just kicked a badger's skull through her brain.

The head (And skull and brain) are immensly weak in DF. Basically a baby may even punch a badgers skull into it's brain, outright killing it.

That is disappointing, I was really impressed by that piglet :-[

Replace the skull with copper.  There's something in DF's combat engine that makes the skull extremely weak compared to other bones (likely size) and thus a lot of skull jamming into the brain.  This makes tantrum spirals much less destructive.

Hah, multiple trolls made me think that one was particularly persistent:

Code: [Select]
The Axe Lord hacks The Troll in the left hand with her (*steel battle axe*) and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Axe Lord hacks The Troll in the lower body with her (*steel battle axe*), tearing apart the muscle through the ({large blind cave bear leather cloak}) and spilling her foul guts!
The Axe Lord hacks The Troll in the right upper arm with her (*steel battle axe*) and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Axe Lord hacks The Troll in the left upper arm with her (*steel battle axe*) and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Axe Lord hacks The Troll in the left lower leg with her (*steel battle axe*) and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Axe Lord hacks The Troll in the head with her (*steel battle axe*) and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The Troll charges at The Axe Lord!
The Troll misses The Axe Lord!
The Troll collides with The Axe Lord!
The Axe Lord is knocked over and tumbles backward!
The Troll strikes at The Axe Lord, but the shot is blocked!
The Troll attacks The Axe Lord, but She rolls away!
The Axe Lord stands up.
The Troll charges at The Axe Lord!
The Troll attacks The Axe Lord, but She jumps away!
The Troll rushes by The Axe Lord!

For one glorious moment, I had visions of a one-legged, no-armed, headless troll hopping at my Axe Lord, widely missing the mark and sailing past while the dwarf looked on bemused.

For one glorious moment, I had visions of a one-legged, no-armed black knight hopping at King Arthur, lightly pushing him while the king looks on annoyed.
