...Wait, you mean you don't think your computer is strong enough to run it? O_o
... considering it fails on the both the baseline CPU and video card requirements listed on the steam page? Yeah, is fairly likely. It might run, but >10 FPS is... doubtful.

Almost definitely too pretty for this comp.

Those specs aren't really that much harder... I don't even know if they make dual cores anymore and a 4 GB stick of RAM is quite cheap. The graphics card shouldn't be too hard to get either (though this all does depend on what country you're from). Is he running it on a six year old laptop or something?

My main issue with this game is that you have to grind up your rez reserves whenever you lose a battle. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but towards the end I ended up cheating myself a bunch of rez whenever i was low to avoid having to mine for it.

Agreed - it really makes later battles a matter of either "go in with utterly overwhelming force so you've no chance of losing" or "go in with as little expense as you think you can get away with", in order to minimise the potential post-battle mine-and-grind.  It can be a bit frustrating.  Not a major negative, but I do find myself wishing there were quicker ways to replenish lost rez (given it's nigh-on zero risk replenishment anyway, it just takes player time).

... this computer is a laptop, UX, and one that's a fair few years old. Conceptually I could upgrade parts, but 1) I'm pretty ruddy broke and 2) SPAZ 2 isn't even remotely worth the hassle of taking a laptop apart to replace parts.

They do still make dual-cores, though. They're still incredibly bog standard for lower-end machines. And it's not ram that's the issue, it's the CPU and graphics card, and the latter in particular runs towards expensive.

And also something that laptops really don't have in spades to begin with, especially lower end ones not specifically geared towards gaming

So I'm playing SPAZ 1... had this game in my library for forever and never gave it a proper play.  I've hit a really annoying snag, though.

I just fought off an attack on my mothership, but I can't move on because there's some cloaked bugger hiding on the map somewhere that I can't find.  Anyone know how to get around this?  I've equipped scanners and spent several minutes flying around looking.  I'm getting towards the end of the game, and it's the first time I've had this problem.  Annoying as hell.  I think it's been a while since I last saved.

If you have any cloaks you can use yourself, it might be worth it to try that. I've had ships just fly away from me faster than I could chase, so sneaking up on them might help. Try near big debris fields.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I paused the game and took a 20 min or so break.  Came back and the enemy instantly appeared in front of my face.

... y'know, I'm like 70% sure there's a way, but I appear to have forgotten how I dealt with fleeing cloakers. I want to say missiles or those big seeking explosives were involved, but I think I'm just remembering blowing everything to hell before it was able to run :-\

Maybe just whatever your longest ranged laser is? That would at least make it more likely you find the critter, if it hasn't buggered off to the far reaches of space. I definitely remember using that to find cloaked stuff when I couldn't be arsed to equip a scanner.

There are also some mines/whatnot that automatically sniff out cloaked invaders.  ...but that involves putting a lot of points into mines.

Honestly the base game is sort of grindy towards the end.

I just ended up installing a mod that gives me 8 huge hangars and cheated myself a shitton of everything and flew throug the entire game with cloaked bomb ships. Bombs actually fall off pretty badly towards the end :/

I think what I tended to default to was loading up missiles and enough boosters that I never stopped firing; or rather, to the point there was always a missile ready to go (eventually you can actually get the reload or whatever up enough it stops helping, because the animation can't keep up). Tore everything to hell, usually from a few screens away, and always ended up with me stopping playing at some point because the missile spam started lagging the hell out of my computer and making the game unplayable :V

Incidentally, I don't know if it was ever changed/fixed, but if you set a missile firing turret/point/whatever to autofire or whatever it is, it will/used to fire a lot faster. Very, very noticeable, and if, as above, you get things to the point even that never has downtime... things don't make it. Also significant portions of the screen may or may not end up obscured. And your FPS goes to hell if you're already on a fairly low end machine. One day I'll have a box worth a damn and can try it again, heh.
