You know, I'd forgotten about Auto-turret mode. Do you think it would still work with a crawler loaded with triple missile racks?

Been using the jerusalm, so I'd imagine so, yes.

Seriously though, the stream of missiles is bad enough to lag the computer I'm using, unconditionally. Comp's not exactly good, but still...

We're talking like 15-30 missiles on the screen before the first one leaves the edge. Not using the srms. It's completely insane. With the triple rack, you do one or two missiles and the rest missile boosters. Per rack. At least until you hit your rez limit (The jeru I'm driving is spot on 10k rez :P), heh. Boosters are expensive.

E:Eesh, bounty hunters are kinda' chumps in the face of this nonsense.

I remember when i was tweaking my ship to fit as many missile/booster combo so i didnt have too much missile/or reload speed to optimise possible DPS, when i turned turret AI online... man... the slaughter..... and the .... FRAMEDROP..... went from 80+ to barely 15ish.... So many missiles.... so many....

Hmm, i want to get delicious blueprints for free but i dont feel like taking out a T3 science base even tough i'm ten levels higher.

On the other side, i just got a grinder with two huge lazers particle cannons. I did it, but it takes so goddamn long. The base cant hurt me at all but it takes so looong to kill it...

So, I finally got to A3 on a new playthrough with beams and launchers.

Beams... are laughably bad compared to cannons. Rank 3 cannons (Particle cannons IIRC) have the same "decent vs everything" damage spread that rank 4 beams do... but rank 3 beams DO NO DAMAGE. So... you end up having to scour the core systems trying to finish the fusion beam schematics. Don't get me wrong, the fusion beams are great, but that's one hell of a jump that just doesn't exist on the alternative shooter-mount guns.

Combine Leech and Fusion beams, and you have a worthy combat ship.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

I just have a lot easier time of landing shots with beams, m'self, especially from further out where it's safer, and they're much nicer in general on turrets, insofar as accuracy goes. Damage per second is less if you're landing everything, but that's what tech and boosters are for, t'me.

Launchers are absolute murder (from 3.5-4k out, to boot) up until you hit zombies. Then, somewhat less useful for a bit until you've got other ways of dealing with the buggers. Then back to just murdering everything.

One ship locked down for the 5 minutes it takes to kill doesn't help vs everything else in the enemy fleet. It's just irritating to suffer a range and fire rate and damage nerf and extended grind just because you didn't pick cannons.

I've also noticed the bounty hunter ships (infested or otherwise) tend to have exorbitant numbers of point defense modules. Kinda sucks for drone/mine/launcher users. Oh wait... cannons can't be shot down by PD either. Interesting.

This is why you use beams and missiles at the same time. Beams aren't much of a direct kill weapon by the time you get the ion emmiter, while missiles/torpedos/srms are much better at it.

Also, Cannons are harder to aim.

... Oh, really? I thought the whole "Cannon>Boosters+Cannons>Mixed Weapons>Missiles>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Beams" was sorted out already. That's been mentioned by the forum official forums since... a bit before 1.0 even.

Eh, depends on how you consider the > signs being manifested. You can do stuff with launchers that you just can't do with cannons or beams for quite a while. Wrecking T3 stations basically from the start is the big one, there :P Takes a while to do it (insofar as holding down the attack button goes), but it's a cinch to start dropping stations as soon as you get the tech up to do damage to their shields faster than they regen. Which happens really, really early.

Cannons and beams you actually have to get close enough the station can shoot back. Fie on that, I say.

Launchers also seem to be a lot better en masse (that is, on all your ships) than cannons or beams, because they've got a pretty solid chance of continuing on to hit something if they blow up the current target. Even in vanilla, I'd fairly regularly see a full missile volley from my fleet destroy like three or four small ships in one go. From the ubiquitous 3+k out, of course. You've got to aim with the primary direct fire weapons. Missiles you just keep outputting constantly as soon as you're within the (massive) range. Makes a heck of a difference.

And yeah, the mod I think a few of us are playing changes things up a bit. Especially if you (ab)use the auto-turrets and launchers. Effing ridiculous, melt everything in .2 seconds. So much dakka, aiee... Launchers definitely seem to be >>>>>>>> everything else in fight for big beef, from what I've seen. Including your CPU.

Incidentally, though, a grinder with a single huge beam and nothing but beam boosters is loving hilarious. It's great to see your constant beam go further out than the viewing area ;D

I'm currently using two giant particle cannons on a grinder. Seems to work pretty well. I got PD for the utility slot. Great for taking down annoying little things you cant really shoot like drones. Makes dodging bombs harder tough.
