Random Citizens: "Hey, did you hear the story of the old high priest, Imbo Trussedringed?? They say that he was cursed to become an undying, bloodsucking monster, murdered a bunch of people, and was finally driven away!"
Vampire Ex-High Priest: "Yeah, I heard that story. By the way, I'm Imbo Trussedringed, and I'll be your bloodsucking tyrant today!"
Random Citizens: "Oh, you're the old high priest! Crap, he really did become an undying, bloodsucking monster!"
Not much of a plot hole... People do tell stories to their children, you know.
Yeah, but what kind of fool uses his real name in a world where being suspected of being a vampire tends to get an angry mob after you? Seems like that's the kind of thing that you might not want to mention.
Besides, it said, "People recognized him as the former high priest and were shocked at his 129 years of life[.]" I'd take that as they recognized him by his appearance, not by his name.
It's not too farfetched. Humans in the DF world are pretty long-lived, mostly because there really isn't any disease yet. The only deaths are due to violent acts or old age.
Human max age is anywhere between 60-120... so 84 is actually below median. So there's certainly people who are still alive that remember him.
Ah... Then I guess the problem is with them being shocked that he lived a mere 9 years longer than the max, assuming enough people actually survive to die of old age.
Citizen #1: "Imbo Trussedringed is back?!? Why he must be... lessee... he fled in the year 63, and it's 137 now, so... <pulls out calculator> that's 74 years, and he was 55 when he left, so... <hits some keys> he's 129 now. Um... Old Bob lived to be 120, which means that... <hits more keys> MY GOD! He's 7.5% older than Old Bob was! He's a MONSTER!"
Citizen #2: "I dunno... I'd wait to see if he lives to be 130 first. Once he hits 130
then I'll be worried."
Also: he was a High Priest
I bet half of temple was filled with his portraits.
Yeah,
was filled, until they found out he was literally a bloodthirsty monster. You tend not to leave portraits up that remind people that one of your high priests was evil... you know, if you're a good religion, that is.
The thing that should really be shocking would be that he's that old and still looks like he was 45 years old (when he was cursed), but I don't know if there are any indications of aging in the game once you reach adulthood. That's assuming that vampirism prevents further aging.
Anyways, not as much of a plot hole as I thought, assuming that there were people still alive to recognize him and/or if he was foolish enough to use his real name.
